Sammy Hagar in St. Louis at the Fox: What happened?

Thu Nov 15, 2007 at 02:49:39 PM

A colleague just tipped me off to this blog from Sammy Hagar:

St. Louis!

I want to apologize to any one single fan that I may have upset during my show last night. If there’s one place I feel closest too, it’s St. Louis. I know St. Louis fans know me and know that I would never purposely want to upset anyone in my town of St. Louis!..I appreciate all of you.

Peace,
St. Louis Rocks!
Sammy

What happened? Anyone go?

Edit, 3:20 p.m.: Oh for pete's sake. Apparently he deigned to diss AB and cheerleaded for Miller, who is putting out his own beer. From Sammy's message board, a reader says the following:

the thing was he went to anhueser busch to sell a cabo beer and they turned him down to sell jimmy b's beer.. so he kept saying its miller time at that point he was booed by EVERYONE there it was loud and then he would talk about it and keep saying it and keep getting booed... then he said blah blah it has nothing to do with stl lets party.... i thought it was all good untill he said it again later.. it pissed allot of people off there.... then near the end some one threw him a usa jacket taht had budweiser on and the place went crazy... but he said its miller time one more time......

you don't diss AB around here, they'll put a hit out on you. poor Dead, er... Red Rocker! but truly, he's only apologizing cause of the cabo wabo coming to the landing

tommylee says:

Wow, Sammy really failed this IQ test. He should know that everyone in st louis has a friend or an uncle who works at AB, so we feel a connection to them even if we don't drink their beer. Miller is swill, and out-of-town swill at that.

jeff says:

I think this says more about the hoosiers at the show than it does about Sammy.

Chris Packham says:

My grandpa worked for Union Pacific for 50 years, but I've never gotten defensive when people trash-talk the railroad. That said, if Sammy Hagar comes to my town and starts chanting "It's Burlington-Northern Time, bitchez," I'll throw a Budweiser bottle at his head. But not for Union Pacific -- I'll do it for Hagar's peripheral responsibility for that terrible "Right Now" Van Halen video.

mike says:

and Jimmy Buffett's beer is one of the worst, sub-Zima brews I've ever had. Cabo Wabo Lager (or whatever he calls it) can't be much worse.

Jro says:

I can't imagine actually booing someone for saying "it's miller time!"... but then again, I have no great love for AB products.

I am endlessly amused by the befuddled looks on peoples' faces at clubs like The Way Out who don't sell AB. That 3-year-old look of "whaaaaaaa?" is genuinely hilarious.

But Sammy's also gotta remember where he is. People around here get crazy about being "loyal St. Louisans" [sic] ... If you don't enjoy mostaccoli, AB and toasted ravs you're a West County poseur, or worse.

But I'm not offended by the anti-AB talk. I'm offended by an ex-rock star clinging to any last vestige of fame by plastering his name over booze, doing massive world tours in support of middling album after middling album, all in an attempt to regain the feeling of "the glory days" - which, admittedly, were pretty friggin' awesome.

St. Louis Hoosier? says:

"I think this says more about the hoosiers at the show than it does about Sammy"

...que?

Matt Harnish says:

Let's all agree right now, the only thing anyone from out of town can ever say on stage in St Louis is how awesome the Arch is.

jaime says:

idolator,

i love you so good.

xoxo,
jaime

Whatever, you little Rams fans need to toughen up. BIZNITCHES!

Jmaes says:

Hey !
How can you people focus on something as trivial as brand loyalty, at a rock concert, nonetheless.
Obviously, St Louis failed to consume enough of their beloved beer, which personally, pales to anything out of the Cabo camp, long enough to have a good time.
Sammy is awesome people, let it go!

jimmy conga says:

WORSE THAN ANY BEER TALK WAS THE WORN OUT JEANS AND SLEEVELESS T-SHIRT, FORGETTING THE WORDS, DRINKING TOO MUCH - ON STAGE - WHILE "PLAYING". THE WEAK PERCUSSION PERFORMANCE AND THE LONG OPENING WITHOUT SAMMY HAGAR - THE NAME ON THE TICKETS.

Maureen says:

All I can say is if his beer is as good as his tequila, AB has made a HUGE mistake....Miller was smart to jump at Sammy's offer......SEE YOU IN SIOUX CITY TOMORROW NIGHT !!!!

K. McNeill says:

I paid $57.00 for a ticket and really looked foward to this concert. What a disappointment it was to have to hear about Sammy's personal business deals and watch him get drunk, and flirt with the bikini girls young enough to be his granddaughters. I just wanted to hear some songs and a Sammy who cared about what his audiences needs were. I saw Andy Williams at the Fox and he gave a much better performance and he is 80 years old. It was like Sammy's own little private party. I think he forgot we were there. I hope Wednesday's show was better than Tuesday's.

Randy Schneider says:

Ya had me 'til the Andy Williams part. I'm shocked Bud didn't approach him for the Wabo brew. Sammy would make more with his own microbrewery and end up selling it to AB mucho dinero just like Cabo Wabo Tequila. St.Louis and Sammy both still rock...see ya'll in Cabo.

Martina says:

Funny enough I saw the November 7th show in Milwaukee and he never said a word about his deal with Miller while on stage. So this WAS a dig in St. Louis!!. I'm from STL originally and have seen numerous Sammy shows there too and was proud that STL was his fav place to play. I considered taking the Cabo Cruise in April but I think I'll roadtrip to St Louis instead. I'l meet ya'll in front of AB!

REdhead forever says:

get over it guys...if you went to the show to see Sammy then I guarentee you got a good show....Sammy does care if you drank Jose Quervo before the show or during it..
get over it...Sammy is a rocker...
