R.I.P. Hi-Pointe, Hello Par

Wed May 21, 2008 at 04:34:59 PM

According to the South Side Journal, a bar called Par has finally opened in the old Hi-Pointe location at 1001 McCausland Avenue.

Owned by Darren Lueders -- the former pub manager at the Cheshire Inn -- the establishment will have a much different feel than the Hi-Pointe, which was known for its grungy, dive-bar rock atmosphere. From the story:

Leuders said he gave his establishment the name "Par" because "it's just kind of a different name. I wanted to go with something that was unique.

The bar now has exposed brick and exposed 12-foot ceilings to give it a "loft feel," Leuders said.

A custom-built 38-foot mahogany bar and two 52-inch flat screen LCD TVs are two of the pub's prominent features.. "It's a good spot to come, have a beer, watch the game," Leuders said.

The bar features homemade pizzas and will have basic appetizers like spinach dip and nachos. It will expand to burgers and other items.

It's open from 5 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. from Wednesday to Saturday.

Jro says:

yes, but will it still book bands? that's the 64,000 dollar question.

Sal says:

Sounds cool! I will check it out!!!

Tom says:

JRO is right. Book some bands. If it's just another bar without live music, who cares?

Book bands? Yeah right. It's going to end up being a big douchebag hangout. Ugh.

(negativity abounds.)

Oh wow, what a concept, a bar with flat screen tv's where sweet bros, I mean brahs, can "watch the game". Will there be Bud Light served as well? I'd could care less even if this wasn't in the old Hi-Pointe's spot, but the fact that this place replaces the Hi-Pointe really does not sit well with me.

Yeah, I was worried that something stupid would move there... Where are the pool tables!?!?! God I miss the Hi-Pointe!!!

Pete says:

I guess they still don't care what you want to hear! lol

Brilliant! This place is gonna rule. Nevermind The Jesus Lizard and the slew of other important, contemporary artists that used to haunt the place. They've got big TVs now!

Ninja says:

Times change. I will give it a look!

Brett says:

i walked up after work on thursday. great happy hour specials & atmosphere.

James says:

Oof. I think the new owners are the family that formerly owned the cheshire. Whether it's the folks that were in charge when the whole "dreadlocks" scandal went down, I sure don't know.

All in all, looks like a chotch'y place full of chotch's to play golden tee and pound mickultras.

Yay!

Billy says:

I am proud to have Par in my neighborhood! Great service and prices. I also love the jukebox!
