The Weekend That Was: The Non-Wilco Edition

Mon May 19, 2008 at 09:27:24 AM

Things happened this weekend not involving Wilco. Hard to believe, right? What did you do? See anything momentous? What went on?

The Orbz says:

The Orbz spent the weekend in the recording studio and were therefore not around anything, Wilco-related or no.

But we did come out with 3 out of 12 songs done for the album that's coming up. So that's nice.

We did try to go see the double feature of "Iron Man" and "Speed Racer" at the Skyview Drive-In in Belleville, but it was sold out.

Bummer.

The Boss Martains ROCKED Off Broadway Friday night with their sweet sweet brand of hard hitting Seattle power pop. Look for their upcoming release that will feature a track cowritten and performed by Iggy Pop.

This was a well rounded show (if not well attended) with The Ded Buggs and Left Arm filling out the bill.

Video coming to Lo-Fi Saint Louis soon.

Matt Harnish says:

Saturday night, Mangia, That's My Daughter rocked it real good, busting out their new cover of 60's girl-group obscurity "DumbHead". Rats & People also played a bunch of new songs that ruled real hard. They're going in this really cool direction of being simultaneously more balls out rock AND more intricate ornate arrangements, like if the Zombies or Left Banke were on trucker speed. Awesome!

And Blondie-Grunt was possibly the finest 45 minutes of Rock'n'Roll I have ever delivered. I couldn't stop smiling the whole time we were playing. It was SO FUCKING GOOD!
