Too Soon: Christmas Music on Moving' 101.1 FM
(Welcome to "Too Soon," an occasional feature pointing out wince-worthy, bizarre or otherwise oddball events related to music in the Lou.)
Dear Movin' 101.1,
I know that you're switching formats and all at the end of the year, so you're in a lame duck situation and really have nothing to lose. But there is absolutely no reason why you should be playing Christmas music on October 10. It is still warm and sunny outside; I don't want to hear Wham!'s "Last Christmas" right now, an occurrence which happened last night when I was driving home. It's not cute or renegade to beat every station in town to playing the holiday tunes; it's just sort of dumb.
Love,
A Holiday Music Fan, But Only When It's After Thanksgiving

Well, crappity sweat balls! I need to get 101.11 (version 0.1), the "Mover", a copy of the soon-to-be-released cd, A Very Bert Dax Halloween, available (hopefully) in stores by the end of next week, release shows on Friday October 24th at Lemmons & Saturday October 25th at the Wayout Club. Then they'll have something to play.
See what I did, there?
Posted On: Friday, Oct. 10 2008 @ 4:57PMI am so so so very angry.... why are they changing format??? and why the hell do I want to hear "baby jesus songs" before even halloween????
I love your station. I listen to it all the time. I love the play lists that you normally have... however, the last few times I attempted to listen to your station I have been forced to do otherwise. What is the deal with the Christmas music??????? IT'S OCTOBER 10th! I really can't think of anyone who wants to listen to that right now. I work in retail and we get complaints all the time when we have Christmas stuff out right after Halloween, but playing this music BEFORE Halloween is just plain ridiculous. I don't know whose idea this was, but this person should be reprimanded! I may just have to find another station to listen to permanently :(
Posted On: Saturday, Oct. 11 2008 @ 1:41AMSERIOUSLY!! It was 80 degrees yesterday--one of the most beautiful fall seasons I can remember in STL and I couldn't believe I switched over and heard "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas!" Christmas music already starts too soon when it begins in early November. WHO wants to listen to it for 11 weeks??? NOBODY. I've already changed my #1 preset--no WAY am I listening to it right now when I'm TRYING to enjoy autumn.
Posted On: Saturday, Oct. 11 2008 @ 9:02AMI ACTUALLY SAID THE EXACT SAME THING TO MYSELF WHEN I WAS DRIVING HOME! WHATS THEIR EMAIL? IM SENDING THEM A PIECE OF MY MIND! >:(
Posted On: Saturday, Oct. 11 2008 @ 1:31PMWhat the heck are they thinking? Its not even cold yet! I like Christmas music and all, but 101.1 went way over board. Now I don't listen to 101.1 anymore. They just lost a faithful listener, and I'm probably not the only one. So much for today's upbeat mix in music. What is 101.1s phone number? Someone call and complain!
Posted On: Saturday, Oct. 11 2008 @ 2:53PMI got 101.1's phone number from a web site called toastedrav.com. If you want to call from Missouri, call 314-969-0101 and if you want to call from Illinois, call 618-399-0101.
Posted On: Saturday, Oct. 11 2008 @ 3:04PMDear Movin' 101.1
Jus lik the writer up top said, i like Christmas music when it is Christmas. Please put the old movin 101.1 back on or i will not be listning to this channel any more.
sincerely,
a missing the old movin 101.1 (before it was a christmas channel) fan
I'm an 11 year old girl and I loved 101.1, but I mean, c'mon. It's the middle of October and they've already got Christmas stuff up. I'm all for Christmas, but, I like to enjoy the other 2 holidays before it. Why does this number on the dial continue changing formats? Wasn't 101.1 another station only a year ago or so, before Movin 101. I really liked the upbeat stuff from today *and* a few years back. My mom loved it too! To everyone wishing the Christmas stuff would go and the old Movin come back - you can forget it. It's now gonna be some stupid SPORTS channel. NO ONE WILL LISTEN TO THIS CRAP!!! NO ONE NEEDS A SPORTS CHANNEL ON THE RADIO!!!
Posted On: Sunday, Oct. 12 2008 @ 12:05AMOK, Listen all you Movin fans... Movin is gone - capoot - Bonneville International Radio Company *Owns 101.1* is Movin the format to Sports Talk FM as of January 1, 2009. Enjoy the Christmas Music because at this point 101.1 will no longer play music - just Sports Talk... can you imagine that? I love sports but a station that plays sports 24/7 - give me a break! I barely can listen to 1380 AM All Sports Talk in STL as it is. I can tune in for about 20 minutes. Bonneville should have made 101.1 a little more hitmusic and left it alone. The ratings were getting better and now it will be a lame Sports FM Talk station.

Posted On: Sunday, Oct. 12 2008 @ 9:17PMI love the Christmas music and I don't care what time of the year it is. Thank you for putting me in the early holiday spirit. I hope you keep this going. I wish others could respect the beauty of the great holiday music.
Posted On: Sunday, Oct. 12 2008 @ 10:58PMI LOVE the Christmas music! Yes, it's a little early, but why restrict it to only November and December? A little more Christmas spirit wouldn't hurt anyone - it seems we're all a little nicer to each other, a little more thoughtful, at that time of year...like we should be all year long anyway...
Posted On: Monday, Oct. 13 2008 @ 8:31AMmovin' 101.1 was the only channel top 40-ish dance music channel i could deal with the kids listening to in the car. 104 and 107 are too much for the small people to hear. i guess they're stuck listening to my 3 doors down all the time.
Posted On: Monday, Oct. 13 2008 @ 10:35AMI like Christmas music, but not when it's 84 degrees outside in OCTOBER!!!
93.1 in Indianapolis played Christmas music the first week of October last year.
I live in New Jersey, but whenever I visited St Louis, Movin 101.1 was my favorite station, and I used to listen to it online a lot. At least play other stuff besides Christmas music for 3 months. It's not even Halloween yet!
Posted On: Monday, Oct. 13 2008 @ 9:14PMI agree that 101.1 should not play christmas music this early. I USED to wake up to this station every morning because I didn't have to hear all the talk of other stations. After waking up to jingle bell rock and thinking I had slept for a couple months, I am listening to 105.3 Mary in the morning. She is wierd. Moving music was good for the morning person and now it is gone.
Posted On: Tuesday, Oct. 14 2008 @ 10:42AMStop..\ This is absurd. If you don't stop you will lose all of your fans and never ever recoup. STOP STOP STOP NOW!!!@!!
Posted On: Tuesday, Oct. 14 2008 @ 3:28PMWhen I first heard Christmas music on 101.1, I really had to convince myself that it wasn't a hoax, a joke, or an advertisement sound byte of some kind. I'm really relieved to know that I'm not the only one who thinks 101.1's timing is ridiculous and distasteful. 101.1 was my rock! How dare they screw with my seasonal clock! I don't think the "Christmas Spirit" should be scraped and thinned-out over three months -- where's the magic in that? Christmas and Halloween don't mix -- unless your watching a Tim Burton film. Then it's okay.
Posted On: Tuesday, Oct. 14 2008 @ 3:29PMWho in the blue-bloody hell thought Christmas music in OCTOBER was a GOOD IDEA!!!!??? 101.1 has totally lost me forever for this stupid mindless stunt... AND THEN I find out they're going SPORTS TALK!!! What is going on with St. Louis radio!!! I'm going XM...
Posted On: Tuesday, Oct. 14 2008 @ 6:31PMWhy are you playing Christmas Music on 101.1?

We are in the process of a format change to sports on 101.1 thus the reason forthe Christmas music. Please hang in there with us. Please take thisopportunity to tune into one of our other stations (106.5 THE ARCH or 92.3 WIL)in the meantime!
Posted On: Tuesday, Oct. 14 2008 @ 9:54PMI hated Movin' 101 and am still vexed that The River was replaced by that disgraceful format. Don't we have enough pop stations in St. Louis? Now I never listen to radio and rely solely on my iPod. Good riddance Movin' 101, you'll still be another station I'll never tune in to.
Posted On: Tuesday, Oct. 14 2008 @ 10:53PMSo much for the best station in the Lou. My wife and I were excited to hear the range of songs played on 101.1 when it came on air, but after reading the reports !WHAT! sports channel? You've got to be kidding! Some marketing guy at Bonneville will be canned in the very near future for this one, he just doesn't know it yet. We already recieve the greatest sports stations here in St. Louis on AM. What we really needed was a live news, weather, and traffic channel. I believe that the city could be on fire and you wouldn't hear about it on the radio until the next day! Good luck with your new station*
Posted On: Wednesday, Oct. 15 2008 @ 8:35AMUNREAL! Ok, so you're changing formats, to sports talk, that in itself sucks. But playing non-stop Christmas music early in October takes the cake!
You've lost me as a listener, my whole office, my friends and family....
I wonder how long till you realize that this is a mistake, yank the sports and start another session of endless Jingle Bells???
Posted On: Wednesday, Oct. 15 2008 @ 10:35AMSo yeah i think the Christmas music is very odd and i get that they have to do that because they're changing formats, HOWEVER, SPORTS TALK RADIO??!! Who in the world came up with this brainiac idea?! 101.1 first off has one of the best signals around so people in the outlying areas have no problem tuning in. Second it was the only station that didn't play alot of talk radio in the morning so people who don't like that (like me) could actually listen to music. There are no longer enough good radio stations in St. Louis to actually fill up my autotune buttons in the car. How sad. Guess this is why alot of people are going to satellite radio.
Posted On: Wednesday, Oct. 15 2008 @ 12:33PMI love Christmas, but I think EVERYONE (myself included) is going to be SICK of Christmas music before the Christmas season is here! Stupid, stupid, stupid! I miss The River and The River staff!
Posted On: Wednesday, Oct. 15 2008 @ 3:59PMomgosh i thought that they were bought out by another station yes that is extremely dumb i thought i was going to hear katy perry hot n cold but instead i got boring Christmas music
Posted On: Thursday, Oct. 16 2008 @ 9:23AMChristmas Music is beautiful. So happy you are playing it!
Thank you. There are some of us who love it!
Given the state of the economy it's really nice to hear Christmas music- I love it
Posted On: Thursday, Oct. 16 2008 @ 10:32AMI love the Christmas music. Sure its early but so what. Enjoy it for the love. soon you'll be hating it because of all the money your spending on Christmas! So sit back and enjoy! LOL
Posted On: Thursday, Oct. 16 2008 @ 2:21PMI cannot believe what I am seeing. People are actually happy to hear Christmas music in October It's OCTOBER you blithering idiots. I don't know which idiot decided it would be a good idea to play CHristmas music in freaking OCTOBER on this station but I hope their loins burn in eternal hell. STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID. HOLY CRAP YOU ARE AN IDIOT.
Also, have a lovely holiday season. IN THREE MONTHS, IDIOT.
Posted On: Friday, Oct. 17 2008 @ 3:04AMMovin was great to listen to for less talk more music and in the last week I have heard so much X-mas music it is getting old. You can only hear jingle bells, white christmas, frost etc... so much before your done with it. I heard the same song played 3 times in an hour just sung by 3 different people in their special way--- uhhh!! Just because they are sung by different people with different melodys does not mean I'm going to want to hear We Wish you a Merry Christmas more than 2 times a day. I don't care if Kids sing it then a woman then a man sings it all in their own unique style...it's still too much.
Maybe they could put in some other songs like Peter Cottontail or Halloween songs like the monster mash. These are considered HOLIDAY too. All these people saying "I love Christmas songs" are going to be wishing it would just stop come end of November just when they should be getting into the holiday mood. Guess I will try 93.3 less talk there at least.
Posted On: Friday, Oct. 17 2008 @ 4:23PMI admit I was rather befuddled when I turned on 101.1 today, and I can't believe a station is playing Christmas music already.
But I'm not gonna lie, I also haven't switched stations.
Then again... whatever will Delilah do this Christmas? 102.5 has always been the holiday station from t-day through new years.
Posted On: Friday, Oct. 17 2008 @ 10:51PMHey ok i love listening to 101.1 butit october why are you playing christmas music it's sooo annoying im ok with having it in december but seriously it FREAKIN october it hasnt even been halloween yet!!!!
Posted On: Saturday, Oct. 18 2008 @ 7:58PMWOW, their are alot of angry people out there regarding the x-mas music. Why can't they just change the station if they hate it so much. The radio station had to do something because they're changing. Everyone can't be happy at the same time so please just keep your negative remarks to your self. I like it and maybe it'll get people out there shopping and help boost the economy, but not use their credit cards!!
Posted On: Sunday, Oct. 19 2008 @ 5:53PMI would agree with Anonymous about how upset people are. It is funny if you really think about it. And the responses show people need to have more cheery spirits anyway. What Scrooges.
Why so upset? It is a free station and the owners can play what they want. When it changes to an all sports format in January, the listeners will change anyway.
I think there are too many people who feel like life is not under their control. Guess what? It isn't.
Oh.
Feliz Navidad :-)
Posted On: Monday, Oct. 20 2008 @ 1:23PMI love the early christmas music! it just cheers me up when i have a bad day or something cuz christmas just brings up everyones spirits and the music just helps it along! Yea it maybe too early to start playing it cuz it isnt halloween yet but its something different and i love it!
Posted On: Monday, Oct. 20 2008 @ 11:50PMOk I like the rest of you believe Oct is way to early to listen to X-mas music becuase I know that by mid December I am normally sick of it to begin with! However, I am more upset that Movin is gone. I can't believe they are replacing it with a sports channel. Once they make the switich they will lose a lot of their listners
Posted On: Wednesday, Oct. 22 2008 @ 11:30AMThis would be a good PR stunt if someone were trying to revive a dying radio station (hint hint).
Posted On: Thursday, Oct. 23 2008 @ 8:28PMSome said before that now they have NOTHING to listen to with their kids anymore, but what about 98.1, I listen to that in the car with mine and there is nothing to beware of. Also, my kids are thrilled that Christmas music is actually on this early and don't proceed to fight the whole way there over what station to listen to. Also, the station got BOUGHT by a different company. This means they CAN'T decide what music is on. I also have heard that since all of their radio djs are fired because the station does not exist anymore, they just play recordings of last Christmas. So if you don't like it stop complaining and turn the channel or put in a CD, its not the end of the world.
Posted On: Saturday, Oct. 25 2008 @ 3:27PMI just wanted to say that until now I had 101.1 programmed into my radio and now I am having to take it out because the christmas music is horrible.... Just need to bring back the old station...
Posted On: Monday, Oct. 27 2008 @ 11:28AMWhat??? You mean to tell me that MOVIN is done after Christmas? I thought they were just getting a Holiday start and getting Christmas music on the air before KEZK. Now I hear they are going SPORTS? Who the heck will listen to an FM sports station all day? NOT ME! Good grief! Thanks Movin and Merry.... well forget it!
Posted On: Monday, Oct. 27 2008 @ 5:18PMHey 101.1 - Stop playing Christmas music. It's too early for that! No fair!
Posted On: Monday, Oct. 27 2008 @ 8:11PMI LOVE IT! It has stirred up a forgiving and giving spirit in me and I LOVE IT! thanks for playing it - and to those who say it's too warm, what about 30, is that cold enough for Christmas music?
Posted On: Tuesday, Oct. 28 2008 @ 12:06PMhi,
I listen to 1077, 98.1 and movin 101.1 alot. they day i heard the christmas music i swear i thought it was a joke but hours and days and weeks went by and im still hearing the same crap. i love christmas but only during the holiday season. This is so stupid and it doesnt make any sense at all. 101.1.... u just lost a faithful listener.
You have lost so many listeners and i agree changing it to a sports channel you will have no radio station left because you will have no listeners. I miss it to bad its gone forever they could of at least played the normal stuff and stated the christmas after thanksgiving i work in retail and it sucks i get so sick of hearing it everyday i dont want to get off and tune to my station and hear more.....
Posted On: Friday, Nov. 7 2008 @ 11:54PMI was very disappointed as well to find the x-mas music and even more disappointed to learn that "keep on movin'" 101.1 was changing format because the exec's at "Booooooo"nville decided to change formats. TRUE x-mas music usually and I do stress usually puts people in an overall better mood/state-of-mind and we do need that in these trying (economic) times - not to mention with so much hate and intolerance in the world. But just think about it with the economy in crisis and all the billions of dollars in bailouts it seems so plain to see that the powers that be (trillionaire tycoons of coporate conglomerates) are looking to find another way to power up via the almighty dollar. By making this switch to sports talk radio like many of you all stated there will be an unprecedented switch to satellite radio (many in the x-mas season - everyone will be giving and receiving satellite radio) and once again these trillionaire (gazillionaire - really) tycoons will secure their power base with what else our money. (Because the last time I checked no one I know owns or operates ANY satellites. Happy Holidays. Peace and Love to ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted On: Tuesday, Dec. 2 2008 @ 2:20PMHadn't been able to access a computer until just recently so I'm just now learning of the format change. What a shame! I enjoyed a non blah, blah, blah station during my morning drives. Nice upbeat music to get my mood up for work. Maybe they will find an audience with their new sports talk format, but I won't be among them. Looks like there are a lot out there who also won't be tuning in on January 1st.
Posted On: Wednesday, Dec. 10 2008 @ 9:22PMomg. I am sooooooo mad!!!!!!!!!!!! Who in their right mind would EVER change movin 101.1 from music to talk. NO ONE will ever tune in to that station anymore. I swear as soon as people found out about movin 101.1 everyone was addicted and in love with that station. THANKS FOR RUINING IT FOR EVERYONE!
