St. Louis Video: The Remaindrz, "Little Luv" + Interview
"Little Luv"

I've asked a half dozen people around town about The Remaindrz (including Kopper & Joe Stumble), and no one had heard of them. And that's weird, because if "Little Luv" is any indication, they were a really good band.

Posted On: Thursday, Jan. 22 2009 @ 2:08PMThe Remaindrz were a girl band that played around in St. Louis 1981 thru 1983. They were Mary Marsala ( lead vocals ), Donna Mingo ( Bass & Vocals ), Tena Bellovich ( Lead Guitar & Vocals )Kelly Haywood ( Drums ). They were not the first St. Louis punk era girl band, that honor belongs to the Welders ( 1975-1978 ) who were managed by one of the members of Pavlovs Dog. The Welders were one of several punk rock bands that played around the St. Louis area during this era ( Ray Miland, The Singapores, The Camaros ). There weren't too many venues at this time for local bands.....Billy Goat Hill & various VFW Halls ( some bar on Broadway across the street from the Old Busch Stadium too, I can't remember the name ) were some of the places you might have seen the Remaindrz or any of the other bands mentioned above.

For a short while they had a fifth member, Michelle Agwayo ( Vocals & Guitar ). There wasn't many venues for punk rock bands in St. Louis during this era, you might have seen The Welders, Ray Miland or The Singapores at the local VFW Hall or possibly the old Billy Goat Hill. The Remaindrz played fairly regular at the Broadway Oyster Bar across the street from Busch Stadium.
Posted On: Saturday, Mar. 21 2009 @ 11:44PMThose videos were part of a half-hour cable show called "Street Beat". I think it might have actually been recorded in the spring of 1983. I was 20 years old at the time. The Remaindrz played punk or new wave versions of a lot of oldies, as well as some originals. We played around St. Louis quite a bit, at the venues Troy mentioned, (that club across from the stadium was Heartbreak Hotel) as well as the Bernard Pub and Stagger Inn over in Edwardsville. We were booked fairly regularly but not taken all that seriously by folks in the punk "scene" at that time. We had some fairly scathing reviews in Jet Lag, for instance. We drew some good crowds but I think we were seen as mostly a novelty. Michelle Aguayo was our singer for a time and very early on, Melanie Harrold (currently of The Stone Electric) fronted the band. After I left in 1983, the band went on for some time with a changing lineup. I'm not sure exactly when they disbanded. Tena is currently teaching computer information technology at the University of Missouri in Kansas City and also has a mushroom farm. I'm an interior painter and still playing bass with "knockaboutsonnet". If anyone knows where to find Kelly or Mary let me know!
Posted On: Sunday, Mar. 22 2009 @ 7:51AMOh, great. NOW we get recognized!
The MC was LaLa. It's funny, I was just talking about her the other day. I would like to know what happened to her too. She was a hoot! The beginning of the video is cut out. Her intro is FUNNY!
Thats right, the bar was called Heartbreak Hotel ( how could I forget? ). That was a great little bar that reminded me a lot of the old Ciceros. They attracted bands from across the country, including another girl band from Springfield, Mo. ( The Pepper Cats ) who always did a great cover of " Watch That Man ". The Remaindrz and the Pepper Cats would sometimes play on the same bill......

Well I was the drummer after Kelly Hayward so I guess I'm part of the various line up.
I have many memories of that band.
Tena was the only orinal remainder at that time.
Hi Tena....Peace!
Played with Mingo in a couple of another band through the years and did a show with her new band a couple of weeks ago.
Oh it just keeps cycling around.
Good times!
