Kiel Opera House Redevelopment On Track
I have an email into Wessels inquiring about the possibility of this redesigned venue hosting music events, like the adjacent (and now-demolished) Kiel Auditorium used to. (Our art director, Tom Carlson, mentioned seeing Elvis Costello, Squeeze, the Police, Frank Zappa and A Flock of Seagulls there.) Having this venue in the city might prove to be interesting, because it's not a stretch to say that the renovated theater would compete with the 4500-seat capacity Fabulous Fox for events. Zappa at Kiel Opera House was my first concert ever (my uncle was running sound). I was eight years old. I'm glad to hear this great hall might actually make a comeback.

the beautiful main theater 3500 seats,
and four stacked theater auditoriums
which were used for performances,
rehearsals, meetings-they were multi-us.
The re-developers will flesh two into
performing spaces. A third will be a
first class restaurant. Down below-
massive space for exhibits, food and
beverage.
It give us once again a center under
one roof for music and other festivals
during the wintertime. There are
fesivals in the wintertime.
The Checketts group are not going to
'touch' Broadway shows for 5 years-
a concession to the Fox. It owns product,
it creates product and producers and
agents will climb all over themselves
to 'play' Kiel again.
"Top House inthe Country" is how
George Walsh, a former manager of Kiel
and box office manager at MUNY" puts it.
Gatti-Casazza of the MET described the
stage of the main theater 'unsurpassed
in America.' This is really big.
Nope...not on track..now we cant open
Kiel before Kansas City opens the Kauffman..
and K C. drives another nail in the
St. Louis travel ' coffin.
Who controls Kiel? No Checketts.
