Oh, and I'll have the entire Live on the Levee and Fair St. Louis line-up here tomorrow at noon. Any guesses of other acts playing? Who's on your wish list?

I definitely thought this was a fake post on Twitter at first. Best concert announcement of the year, hands down.
Posted On: Tuesday, May. 19 2009 @ 12:09PMnope, 100 percent real. i couldn't believe it myself at first, but it's true.
Posted On: Tuesday, May. 19 2009 @ 12:13PMGod damn it.
Why did this have to be the same day as the effing Jesus Lizard, Built to Spill, Tortoise, and Yo La Tengo show in Grant Park?!
keep your Teenage Riot, jerks.
Posted On: Tuesday, May. 19 2009 @ 12:45PMHell to the yes.
And Chad, pitchfork isn't in Grant Park, it's Union Park. You're thinking of Lollapalooza.
Posted On: Tuesday, May. 19 2009 @ 1:14PMYou guys must have seen our blog, then posted this one.
Posted On: Tuesday, May. 19 2009 @ 1:16PMAs far as other bands go, if they are anything like this shocker..I'm going to blow up.
Posted On: Tuesday, May. 19 2009 @ 1:34PMWhat Chad said. I already bought my Pitchfork tickets and now they tell me my favorite band is playing free in the city I live in? Not fair!
Posted On: Tuesday, May. 19 2009 @ 1:35PMi wanted jesus lizard, too, but this show is soothing the sting. also, jesus lizard touring in the fall, anyway...
Posted On: Tuesday, May. 19 2009 @ 1:48PMo'rourke isn't in the pic cause he's probably already at the arch trying to figure out how to make cool sounds with it.

Posted On: Tuesday, May. 19 2009 @ 2:30PMYou people going to pitchfork should know that SY is playing to Chicago shows in June. So you can see everybody if you want to pay a bit more.
Posted On: Tuesday, May. 19 2009 @ 4:00PMHey I read this announcement on Metromix.com first!
Posted On: Tuesday, May. 19 2009 @ 4:05PMI don't know if this MetroMix "rivalry" is for real, but it's pretty entertaining. The time-stamps for both releases reads noon. I for one (and for what it's worth) definitely read it here first.
Posted On: Tuesday, May. 19 2009 @ 4:12PMSadly, the Metromix posting is subpar. While it relays all of the same information it is clearly lacking in the MS Paint-as-Photoshop Department.
On a completely unrelated note, I hear that Jaime Lees is for hire.
Posted On: Tuesday, May. 19 2009 @ 4:23PMi got my info direct from entertainment st. louis yesterday. i imagine metromix did as well, because the blog timestamps were the same (which i noticed after posting over there). our twitter post went up about ten minutes before theirs.
and actually, i knew about this show a month or so ago, but i was sworn to secrecy. :P
Posted On: Tuesday, May. 19 2009 @ 4:35PMRe: Metromix vs A to Z
Not sure if it was Edward George Earle Lytton Bulwer-Lytton, 1st Baron Lytton or Slayer* that said "the pen is mightier than the sword" but what happens when its "pen" vs "pen"?
* Actually Slayer said "F#ck the pen because you can 'Die By The Sword'
Re: Metromix vs A to Z
"can't we all just get along?"
Posted On: Tuesday, May. 19 2009 @ 4:39PMHey Guys--
I didn't write the first Metromix post, but yeah, it would be cool if we all got along. I would love it if some of you started to read our Metromix live music blog--in addition to A to Z--and the StLtoday blogs (as well as any other cool blogs about St. Louis music).
Thanks!

people getting along never made me any $$$...now you two blogs get in the ring and start rasslin' and wait until the P-D's The Blender or Rock Candy come in and smash a chair or two over your computers!
Posted On: Tuesday, May. 19 2009 @ 4:52PMi have no problem with anyone, as long as people give credit where credit's due, and everybody links or gives a hat-tip to where you saw the content first. that's proper internet etiquette and common courtesy. everybody works hard to get their content, and it's nice to have your reporting rewarded and noticed. at every publication. i don't think any local blogger would disagree with that.
i always do this, assuming i've seen a blogpost (and if i don't link something, i haven't seen it, because i generally don't have time to read blogs during the day). in this instance, it seems like simultaneous posting, which i didn't realize at first.
either way -- truce, no hard feelings, stop the fighting, etc.
Posted On: Tuesday, May. 19 2009 @ 5:00PMHey Nostradamus...I predicted it first! : )
Seriously though, kudos to all of the local blogs & publications feeding us this information...the more people know the more they go!
Posted On: Tuesday, May. 19 2009 @ 5:01PMGreatest news I have heard in a long time. Also have to figure out the whole P-fork thing. Win win, I guess.
But didn't O'Rourke leave in 2005?
Posted On: Tuesday, May. 19 2009 @ 5:02PMcounting crows are coming on july 3rd.
did no one do their research!?!
boy do I never get sick of this.

Posted On: Tuesday, May. 19 2009 @ 6:35PMHere we have news of what's bound to be a very special evening in our oft-overlooked city. And half the posters are bickering about who got the scoop first. Let's get our priorities straight, shall we?
Posted On: Wednesday, May. 20 2009 @ 8:12AMJust went to metromix...because you can never have too many avenues to read about music, and all things local...
It's a nice enough site, it feels a little Clear Channel-y, and it really doesn't focus on the local stuff at all...even their blog which boasts:
"There are a ton of national acts that roll through St. Louis in any given month. But there are also a lot of happenings in the local music scene. The goal of this blog is to give you an insight into shows that have hit town, a preview of what's ahead and some behind-the-scenes stuff from different perspectives. Enjoy!"
but if you scroll through the blogs, there's maybe one reference to a local band...
Like I said, it's always good to have free sources of information on local things, but this one feels a little souless...
Hopefully Annie and her people will update the blogrolls soon...then you'll find the most local perspective on the scene around...
I often miss the print version of playback, back when they had a few pages that served as a roll call of band happenings...from shows, to members leaving bands, to bands looking for members...and everything inbetween...it pretty much covered everything local from month to month, and I mean everything...bands you'd never see written up anywhere else...
sigh...
but like I said, once the blogroll is functioning with clean links, every drop of information one could hope for will be there waiting to be found, I reckon...
Posted On: Wednesday, May. 20 2009 @ 9:08AMHey Rev,
You're right that we could talk more about local acts. The "headline" of the blog usually (90%) focuses on a national act, but sometimes, like the blog for May 11th, we will talk about local artists, too -- like Leslie Sanazaro Santi and Cassie Morgan @Off Broadway (both are nominated for RFT awards; Geoff Koch was also blogged about last year). Plus, we only post one blog a week, so it will likely never seem like we are always talking about local acts.
Of course, it can get better. Local musicians are free to e-mail me, and I will try to write about their upcoming shows. I'm sorry if it seems "soulless" to you, but I do see your point.
I really don't care who "breaks" the news, or who got the scoop, btw.
Thanks,
Jason
OK, so who else is rumored or confirmed to be playing this year? So far the only other one I've heard is Counting Crows on July 3. (It's on their website)
Posted On: Wednesday, May. 20 2009 @ 10:28AMcheck back here at noon for the full, confirmed lineup! :)

This is cool, and definitely gives St Louis some much-needed hipster cred. But the fact remains that Sonic Youth really isn't that good.
Posted On: Wednesday, May. 20 2009 @ 10:52AMGood and listenable(to the uninitated) are two completely different things.
