Video: Sonic Youth on Jimmy Fallon, "No Way" + Thurston Moore's Too-Hot-for-TV T-shirt!

Thanks to the Village Voice, who posted this video of Sonic Youth performing last night on Jimmy Fallon's show and debunked the totally too-hot-for-TV shirt Thurston Moore was rocking. (Confidential to Kim Gordon: I love your dress.) Everyone beyond stoked yet for the band's July 17 show under the Arch?

Today is the Fifteenth Anniversary of the Discovery of Kurt Cobain's Body

Fifteen years ago today, the body of Kurt Cobain was discovered in Seattle. I still remember where I was; I know many other people around my age do, too. Here's one of the best videoclips of Nirvana out there.

Tonight! So Many Dynamos Does Weezer, Target Market Slacks off as Pavement at Off Broadway

Getting excited yet for next weekend's An Under Cover Weekend kickoff at the Bluebird? I know I am! To whet your appetite, may I suggest heading to Off Broadway tonight for the following tribute-band bonanza? From le MySpace:

So Many Dynamos performs as "In The Garage: A Tribute To Weezer," performing the best Weezer tracks from 1994-1998. No bullshit, no "Beverly Hills," no "Pork and Beans," no "Hash Pipe" -- just the jams from when Weezer was the band that made all 4 of us want to start bands in the first place.
Target Market performs as "Gold Soundz: A Tribute to Pavement." A sneak preview of Target Market covering Pavement's "Summer Babe (Winter Version)" at their last show proves that this is going to be incredible, and it might sound more like Pavement live than Pavement did.

Having seen the Weezer tribute back in June, let me tell you that it's probably better than Weezer was back in the day -- and certainly better than Weezer now. Doors at 8, the show's 9, $6 for 21+, $8 for under 21 -- and it's all-ages.

Some vids after the jump.

An Under Cover Weekend Participants Announced

Let the games begin! The participants in this year's An Under Cover Weekend(s) extravaganza have been announced, although what bands each group involved is covering remains a mystery. The two-weekend event takes place at the Bluebird on September 5, 6, 12 and 13. Each night is 18+ and costs $10 at the door for those over 21, $13 for anyone under. Without further ado, here are the locals performing each night. Hazard your guesses in the comments. (Oh, and the '80s night is my unofficial birthday shindig; you've all been warned.)

An Undercover Weekend -- The '60s, featuring: Wormwood Scrubs, The Hibernauts, The Feed, tba

An Undercover Weekend -- The '70s, featuring: The Blind Eyes, Dock Ellis Band, Jon Hardy and the Public, Logos, The Livers

Tonight at Pop's: Filter

I tend to file Filter away with Stabbing Westward and God Lives Underwater in terms of electro-rock acts from the '90s. But since lead singer Richard Patrick grew up one town over from me, I have a soft spot for 'em. They're playing at Pop's tonight and doors are at 7, so I'd hurry!

Annie going to Lollapalooza = no review. However, please enjoy my photos from the Toadies/Whigs extravaganza. Chime in in the comments what you thought. I was mighty impressed by both bands. Click on photos for larger versions.

Foo Fighter Dave Grohl on Nirvana at Mississippi Nights + Nirvana Videos, Thoughts

In my Foo Fighters review, I mentioned that Dave Grohl spoke at length about Nirvana's infamous 1991 show at Mississippi Nights, where a quasi-riot broke out onstage. Turns out, video footage of his speech has surfaced on YouTube. It's a little hard to hear, but Grohl's storytelling skills are funny enough to overcome any technical shortcomings.

After watching this, I decided to watch some live Nirvana clips, because I was feeling nostalgic. Among the deluge on YouTube, I found high-quality videos taken from MTV's "Live and Loud" New Year's Eve 1993 concert, which was filmed in Seattle earlier that month. (I have a feeling I probably watched it when it aired, but I can't recall right now. I mean, I was barely 14, in eighth grade and a huge dork; what else would I be doing with my New Year's Eve besides watching Nirvana?)

Anyway, after seeing these clips, I had a bunch of thoughts (of course).
