Henry Townsend, 1909-2006

Townsend died in Grafton, Wisconsin, where he was slated to perform as the main attraction at the Inaugural Paramount Blues Festival.

Because we're publishing our annual "Best of St. Louis" issue this week, a longer appreciation of Townsend's life and career will appear in the paper's October 5 issue. [Editor's note: The story can be found here.]

The visitation/wake is scheduled for this Sunday, October 1, from noon till 7 p.m. at Layne Renaissance Chapel (7302 West Florissant Avenue, Jennings). The funeral will be held the following day at 11 a.m. at Mount Nebo M.B. Church (4981 Theodore Avenue). Internment follows at 2 p.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery (2900 Sheridan Road). -Malcolm Gay
