Laughing All the Way to Prison
In July we wrote about the arrest of St. Louis Oblate priest Carl Kabat , who defaced a nuclear missile silo near Bismarck, North Dakota.
Kabat wore a yellow wig and multicolored jumpsuit while pouring a baby bottle filled with his own blood on the Minuteman III warhead . He is known as the "Clown Priest" and has spent about one-third of his adult life in prison for weapons and death-penalty protests.
A play based on Kabat's life, And Carl Laughed, opens at Clayton High School on Thursday. Written by Clayton theater director Kelley Ryan and associate director Nick Otten, it follows Kabat's life from his 1960s missionary work in the Philippines up to his current federal imprisonment in Terre Haute, Indiana.
See it while you can, because if you miss this weekend's run you'll have to travel to Scotland for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival , where And Carl Laughed will show the first two weeks of August.
