Go! The St. Louis Weekend Calendar, October 3-5, 2008

Not totally satisfied with your weekend itinerary? Never fear, Go! is here! This regular feature delivers the top nine can’t-miss activities to complete your fun-seeking agenda. Looking for live music? Here's your St. Louis weekend concert calendar.

1. A few words can sum up what Bruno David Gallery (3721 Washington Boulevard, 314.531.3030) is offering Friday night: Mechanical science, contentment and a put-on-clothes tease. Featured artists: William Griffin: Recent Paintings, Patricia Olynyk: Probe, Margaret Adams: Blinds and Jessica Rogen: Let Me Entertain You. Reception from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Each artist explores contrastive but equally intriguing concepts. You'll probably feel really smart if you go.

2. Off Broadway (3511 Lemp Avenue, 314.773.3363) is hosting Battle of the Corporate Bands benefitting the United Way from 7 p.m. to midnight Friday. Last year this event raised $8,100 for the long-standing volunteer organization. Maybe we can raise more. $5 in advance, $8 at the door.

3. The 17th Annual Best of Missouri Market at the Botanical Garden (4344 Shaw Boulevard, 314.577.9400) is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. More than 100 vendors offering everything from fruit and fresh flowers to mushrooms and meats. Cows will be milked, chefs will demonstrate cooking techniques and pumpkins will be decorated. Adults: $10, Seniors: $7, Garden Members: $3. Kids under 12 are free.

4. The A.M. Lounge (4054 Manchester Avenue, 314.480.2415) grand opening is from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. Saturday. Complimentary Vox cocktails and no cover charge for the punctual before 11. $5 for those who come later. Two for one bottles for table service, but you'll need to book your table in advance. Call Corey @ 314-480-2415. DJs Mahf and Deadadisco will be providing the dance music.

5. Pumpkin guts! The Craft Alliance (6640 Delmar Boulevard, 314.725.1177) will be offering free pumpkin carving and decorating from 1 p.m. till 3 p.m. Saturday. All the pumpkins have been donated by Thies Farm and you also get a coupon toward a purchased from the farm's Pumpkin Land.

6. Oktoberfest is in Soulard this weekend taking place between Carroll and Lafayette Streets. Highlights include: The Arch Rival Roller Girls at 6 p.m. on Friday, The Miss Oktoberfest Pageant at 2 p.m. on Saturday and the BMW Club Car Show at noon on Sunday. Friday all lederhosen-related festivities begin at 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m.

7. The American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5k Walk is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at Southwestern Illinois College, the Belleville Campus (2500 Carlyle Avenue, 618.235.2700). A big difference between this walk and most is that it's free. The participants decide how much they'd like to donate.

8. Smoke on the Royale Mountain barbeque is from noon to 3:30 p.m. at The Royale (3132 South Kingshighway at Arsenal 314.772.3600) $25 in advance and $30 at the door for all the barbeque staples along with vegetarian and vegan dishes for those who don't care for animal: burgers, veggie burgers, hotdogs, notdogs, potato salad, hummus and veggies, deviled eggs, cornbread...along with bluegrass music, games, and a sneak peak by cast members of Smoke on the Mountain-opening October 31st in Fontbonne's Fine Arts Building.

9. Percussionist Colin Currie will be playing three concertos at Powell Symphony Hall (718 North Grand Central, 314.534.1700) with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. Sunday will be the Der Gerette Alberich and Mozart's Abduction from the Seraglio beginning at 3 p.m. Tickets range $15-$105.00.
