In Recession, the Promise of Free Stuff Gives Us Another Reason to Vote

If the beautiful ideal of democracy is not enough to sustain you through the long wait to cast your ballot tomorrow, here are a few freebies that might.

But be sure to collect your "I Voted" sticker on your way out.

- Starbucks, as Ian already reported over on Gut Check, will be giving out free tall cups of coffee. No proof required, besides your word. Vote early, caffeinate often.

- Then head over to Krispy Kreme and grab a star-shaped donut with “patriotic sprinkles.” They do require a sticker.

- At lunchtime, enjoy a free chicken sandwich at Chik-fil-A. Sticker also required.

- Ben & Jerry’s stores will be handing out free scoops of ice cream between 5 and 8 p.m.

- And, should you find yourself in Kirksville, Missouri, stop by Dyed Hyde Tattoo and Body Piercing for a free body piercing. (Note: while the piercing itself is free, you will have to pay a $5 materials fee.)

- Babeland, the New York and Seattle-based sex toy retailer, will be handing out toys tomorrow: a Silver Bullet mini-vibrator for the ladies and a Maverick Sleeve for the gents. Alas, the offer is good only in stores, but if you’re planning to travel within the next few days, the offer is good till November 11.

Sadly, none of the St. Louis sex toy stores have jumped on the freebie bandwagon.
