Categories: Community, News

Peter Raven.jpgFrom discovering a rare species of plant when he was just fourteen to his three decades at the helm of the Missouri Botanical Garden, Dr. Peter Raven has dedicated his life to botany.

Fitting then that the septuagenarian Raven was honored earlier this month with the National Council for Science and the Environment (NCSE) Lifetime Achievement Award.

The award "for a distinguished career as an innovative leader advancing scientific and public understanding and conservation of biological diversity," was presented at a ceremony in Washington D.C. on Dec. 8.

The accomplished Raven has also won the U.S. National Medal of Science as well as many other accolades. In 1999 he was the subject of a Riverfront Times profile that took a somewhat critical look at Raven's connection to St. Louis-based Monsanto.
