Play Hooky Today and Watch the Inauguration

If you're reading this early, you may want to call into work, stay home and watch the inauguration. Or you could head out on the town, have a stiff drink or two in the middle of the afternoon, talk politics all day long and be back home in time for dinner. Once home, you can get in a cat nap before you head out tonight, where you'll dance and drink some more.
Here's a brief list of things inaugural going on around St. Louis. If you have one to add, throw all the details in a comment at the bottom. Or you could just go to work (or stay home on the couch), because if you're like most of us, you're a little burned out on a two-year presidential campaign, no matter how wonderful and historic it all was/is/will continue to be. Either way.
Fuel and River City Professionals are hosting a party at the Stable (1821 Cherokee Street.) Drinks and and complimentary appetizers from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
The University of Missouri St. Louis is hosting an inauguration watch party, starting at 10 a.m. at the University: Technology and Learning Center and the Pilot House.
The Saint Louis Science Center will broadcast the inauguration ceremonies on the four-story Omnimax screen. The broadcast lasts from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tickets are free, and are first-come, first-served. They can be picked up in person prior to the inauguration ceremony.
If you end up going to work today, you might want to hit up the Pageant on Delmar. At 7 p.m. the St. Louis Democratic Central Committee is hosting a rebroadcast of the inaugural speech. For a little music, you can hear Paul Brown & the Killing Devils, Joe Dryer & Rosemary Watts, the Sean Holland Band and DJ Tossin' Ted. Phew, what a list! The admission for this gig is $10 and a canned good donation. Casual is the dress code. For more info, call 314-667-3785.
Out in Webster Groves, the 2009 Inaugural Union Ball will be held at the Monday Clubhouse. The dancin' starts at 7:30 p.m., so give yourself time to practice the historical dancing that will be going on at said ball -- waltzes and quadrilles and the like.
The Moolah Theatre in Midtown is hosting its own inauguration party, starting at the presidential time of 10 a.m. The theater / bar stays open until 6 p.m. and admission is free. However, in the spirit of giving, the Moolah asks that attendees bring a can or two of food to support the St. Louis Food Bank.
Political hangout The Royale is hosting its own party. Guests include community activist Josh Wiese, poet K. Curtis Lyle, writer Chris King, Thomas Crone, Jim Utz and Jamie Toon. The events begin at 10 a.m. and last until 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.
