Three candidates for St. Louis mayor held a debate last night at the downtown library. The event was long on sound-bites and allegations, but short on in-depth policy discussions -- according to KWMU 90.7 FM. You can listen to snippets of the debate here.

Federal agents have charged Robert Williams, owner of Club TV in East St. Louis, with transporting stolen property. Williams is accused of taking $100,000 worth of fixtures from a similar club that he rented on Washington Avenue in St. Louis. Authorities also found 419 pounds of what they believe to be marijuana at Williams' East St. Louis nightclub. Drug charges are pending.

A bill in the state legislature would require tobacco companies to sell only self-extinguishing cigarettes in Missouri by 2011. The so-called "fire safe" cigarettes quit burning when not smoked by the user. It should be interesting watching the behind-the-scenes lobbying behind this bill as the last thing tobacco companies want is a cigarette that last longer.

It's March 31 and that means one thing: Cesar Chavez Day. Si se puede!
