Bob Pettit, the St. Louis Hawks great who brought this city its only NBA championship, will officially be inducted into the St. Louis Walk of Fame this August.

Pettit, who resides in his home state of Louisiana, was named to the walk last year but could not make the induction ceremony due to a family emergency. The old forward -- who redefined the position during his ten years in St. Louis -- is excited about his return to town, says walk-of-fame founder Joe Edwards.

"I know that several of his former teammates from the Hawks plan to be here for the ceremony," says Edwards. "It's going to be a reunion of sorts."

During his prolific career, the six-foot-nine-inch Pettit averaged an amazing 26.4 points and 16.2 rebounds per game and was the first NBA player to score 20,000 points. During the 1958 NBA championship against the Boston Celtics, Pettit tallied 50 points in the deciding Game Six to clinch the series.

Pettit was inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame in 1971. His star in St. Louis is located in the East Loop on Delmar, directly across from the Moonrise Hotel.
