A 62-year-old grandma successfully defended herself yesterday in a Clayton courtroom on charges of first-degree assault and armed criminal action in the shooting of a 17-year-old male. Said the winning defendant: "I knew (the prosecutors) didn't have any evidence, because I didn't do it."

There's been another chimpanzee shooting in Missouri. This one outside Kansas City. Police responded yesterday to a call about an angry primate in Winston, Missouri. When the officers arrived, the ape opened the door to their cruiser and grabbed the leg of the driver. Police then shot the animal. Not surprisingly, perhaps, the cops also uncovered a puppy mill on the property.

Metro is still suffering a Buzz kill from the death of former St. Louis County Executive George "Buzz" Westfall in 2003. So says the president of Metro, Robert Baer, who told KMOX yesterday, "I think the force of his personality and his performance in St. Louis County was such that we may be in a different situation today."

It's April 2, and that means on thing: World Autism Day.
