Will a Budweiser Make Buds Out of Henry Louis Gates Jr. and that Cambridge Cop?

For years Anheuser-Busch has used the slogan, "Making Friends is Our Business."

But could a recent (and much publicized) feud prove too powerful for even the "King of Beers" to mend?

That's the topic under intense debate in the nation's capital, where President Barack Obama this week plans to invite Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. and Cambridge police officer Jim Crowley to the White House to share a beer.

The idea for the meeting reportedly came up last week when Obama called Crowley to express regret for saying the officer acted "stupidly" when he arrested Gates Jr., a prominent black studies scholar, on a disorderly conduct charge.

Crowley was drinking a Blue Moon at the time the president called and suggested that perhaps a conversation over a beer could help dissipate the feud.

So what brand of beer will be served at the White House when the three get together to bury the proverbial hatchet?

Crowley -- as mentioned -- is partial to Blue Moon. Gates Jr. is said to enjoy Becks and Red Stripe (though apparently foreign beers have not been stocked in the White House since the Johnson administration).

And the POTUS, himself? What's his flavor?

Obama has yet to say, but his press secretary did note that the president "had a Budweiser at the All-Star Game" a couple weeks ago in St. Louis.
