The man who's answered scores of media questions, dropped the occasional tip and, yes, issued a few "no comments" in his day -- Ed Rhode -- is leaving Mayor Francis Slay's staff effective August 31.

For the past eight-and-a-half years Rhode has served as the official spokesperson for the Slay administration. Rhode was communications director during Slay's first campaign for mayor in 2001 and later transitioned into the role of the mayor's press secretary.

Prior to his involvement with Slay, Rhode worked as former Congressman Dick Gephardt's St. Louis press secretary.

"After 16 years in the public sector, I'm ready for a new career challenge," says Rhode, who tells Daily RFT he wanted to stay with Slay through his third successful campaign for mayor this past spring.

Rhode plans to open his own public relations and government affairs firm, Rhode Communications and says he already has a few clients including his soon-to-be-former boss, Francis Slay.
