St. Louis Post-Dispatch Managing Editor Pam Maples Resigns

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch website is reporting that managing editor Pam Maples resigned today.

The screenshot is from a Post blog post by Steve Parker, who (as you can see) cites the source as stltoday.com. Maybe it's just me and my adversarial relationship with the Post's website (c'mon, could I possibly be the only one?), but I can't find the news anyplace else on the site.

Be that as it may...

A graduate of Mizzou's school of journalism (1979), Maples came to the Post in late 2006 after building a strong résumé in investigative reporting at the Dallas Morning News. While there she was part of a team that won a Pulitzer Prize for international reporting in 1994 for a series on violence against women.

This year the Post was a Pulitzer finalist in the Breaking News category for its coverage of the 2008 shootings at Kirkwood City Hall; the judges cited the Post news team's "creative and aggressive coverage, both online and in print, of a city hall shooting that left six people dead, displaying an exemplary blend of speed and rigor in its reporting."

Footnote: The Post earlier this year laid off Todd Smith, the reporter who took a bullet during the Kirkwood shooting spree.
