Streetballers Cracks Top Ten

Received an e-mail yesterday from Patrick Rooney, one of the producers and actors in the St. Louis film Streetballers, which opened last weekend in local theaters.

The film is living up to the expectations of its crew, who hoped the movie would sell enough tickets to rank in Variety's list of ten best-grossing films per theater.

Yesterday the Hollywood trade journal ranked Streetballers as No. 9 in its list of per-screen sales for the week of August 21-27. In taking in an average of $5,791 (albeit only in two theaters), Streetballers out-earned the individual theater revenue of movies such as G.I. Joe, Julie & Julia and The Time Travelers Wife

Rooney says the film, which stars several local actors including former Mizzou and Vashon High School hoopster Jimmy McKinney, will continue to run in full rotation this coming week at Ronnies 20 and in the 9:40 p.m. time slot at the Tivoli Theatre.

The film is next scheduled to premiere in Los Angeles on September 25.
