Remember How the Pilgrims Rejected Socialism? Rep. Todd Akin Sure Does!

Categories: Follow That Story
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. Don't know anything about this holiday? Dont' worry!

Congressman Todd Akin (R-St.Louis County) has been studying the origins of Thanksgiving and it's "unbiblical" cousin, socialism, and can explain it all -- as he did last week in Washington D.C.

Note: Most YouTube videos longer than three minutes aren't worth watching. This one is an exception. Enjoy and Happy Thanksgiving!

So, what do you think? Does Akin have "something wrong with his brain" like that former governor of Plymouth Colony, John Carver?

Hat tip to Fired Up! Missouri for the video.

Other than the alarming fact that Todd Akin doesn't seem to know there's a difference between socialism and commununism, he's not completely wrong. Communal work and shared harvests didn't work for the Pilgrims; fields farmed by individual families did work. We pretty much knew that already based on 20th century history.
What he doesn't mention is that the first Pilgrim marriage was performed by the magistrate rather than the minister because they thought it was a state function rather than a religious one. Take that Todd Akin!
