Up in the Air Singer-Songwriter Featured on CBS Evening News

Categories: Music
If you went to see Up in the Air (aka The George Clooney Movie) and hung around to watch the closing credits, you would have heard St. Louis singer-songwriter Kevin Renick performing his own melancholy tune about unemployment and uncertainty

Renick, a former Riverfront Times proofreader, wrote the song after he was laid off from his job at a marketing firm. Amazingly, he came up with the title "Up in the Air" even before he learned the movie, also partially about unemployment and uncertainty, would be filming here in St. Louis.

Last week, Jim Axelrod of the CBS Evening News paid Renick a visit to hear the improbable story of how the song made its way from Renick's kitchen table into the movie and onto the soundtrack album.
