A Chicago Sun-Times travel writer recently received the royal treatment in St. Louis: scoring a rare interview with rock icon Chuck Berry and getting upgraded to a plush suite at the new Moonrise Hotel.

And no doubt Delmar Loop impresario Joe Edwards (owner of the Moonrise and one of the few folks who can convince Berry to submit to an interview) is pleased with the result. In a travel piece Sunday, Sun-Times writer Dave Hoekstra positively gushes over St. Louis and his time in the Delmar Loop.
"Delmar Loop has grown to include 140 shops and 48 restaurants -- businesses as independent as [Chuck] Berry himself," writes Hoekstra. "To understand why St. Louis is a key visit in any rock 'n' roll road trip, just follow the stars of St. Louis natives out of Blueberry Hill. Berry's star is in front of the nightclub, not far from sex researchers Masters and Johnson. There also are stars for Ike Turner, Tina Turner, William Burroughs and Michael McDonald of the Doobie Brothers."
P.S. The longer interview with Berry (also published Sunday in the Sun-Times) reveals that the 83-year-old Berry has traded in his "V-8 Ford" for a Toyota and spends his time behind the wheel listening to baseball games -- not music.
