Former Politico Jeff Smith Ships Out to the Federal Pen Today

Former state senator Jeff Smith begged off from his 1,136 Twitter followers just after midnight, telling them it would be his last tweet for awhile.
KMOX says Smith will report to a minimum-security prison in Kansas today, in order to begin the 12-months-and-a-day sentence he picked up for lying to federal investigators.
Word among politicos is that Smith used some of his recent free time to collect tips on life in prison from at least one white-collar criminal, and that he's hoping to do some teaching while "inside," as they say. (Smith is a former Washington University adjunct professor.)
Smith has said publicly that he's writing a book about his political past.
