Help Out Haiti: Get Drunk and Fat and Hear Live Music Every Day This Week

Categories: Community
Nothing feels better than giving help to those who need it most -- unless you're giving help to those who need it most by drinking heavily, rocking out and eating chicken wings.

Seriously though, an entire country is devastated.

There are lots of ways you can contribute to the relief effort and have fun doing it. Local groups have organized benefit concerts, promotions and events where you can donate cash and canned goods.

Here's a quick overview of the local Haiti relief efforts. If we left anything out, please let us know in the comments.

Tonight @ The Royale:
Frantz Sanon, pastor at the French speaking Kingshighway Baptist Church will be at the Royale at lunchtime on Monday accepting support for his mobilization of medical supplies, blankets, clothing and other basic supplies he will be taking to his home country.

Stop in and purchase any beverage of your choice to show your support. If you kick in an extra buck (or two) on each beverage purchase, we will kick in another buck (or two). We will be running a Haitian Happy Hour all day w/ $2.50 Missouri Drafts, and we will also offer several drinks featuring Haitian Rhum Barbancourt. So just add an extra dollar or two with each beverage purchase and The Royale will match your donation and ring the bell to mark your donation for Haiti.
Tonight @ The Black Label Gallery Lounge:
Hits for Haiti, 8 p.m. Monday at Black Label.

Performing are Bradd Young, June 5th, Ruka Puff, Corey Black, Jay Kidd, Bryant Stewart, Rep. Chris Carter, Rockwell Knuckles, Aloha, Hitman DJ's, D Fresh, and more.

Donate cans, clothing, or a $10 at the door.

Presented by High Society, Delux magazine, Made Monarchs, and Radio Rock Music Group. www.blacklabelstl.com

Thursday:
Nothing scheduled that we can find. Crack a beer at home and donate $10 to the Red Cross via your mobile phone by texting "Haiti" to 90999.
UPDATE: Colleague Ian Froeb has the dish over on Gut Check about a food benefit this evening:
I received some sad news via email this afternoon: Cherichel Debrunes, a chef for fifteen years at Frazer's Restaurant & Lounge (1811 Pestalozzi Street; website), lost several family members in the Haiti earthquake; several other family members remain among the missing. The restaurant will donate all dinner proceeds this Thursday, January 21, from 4-10 p.m. to help Debrunes' family in Haiti.
Friday @ The Gramophone:
The Gramophone is proud to partner with Mario Pascal to present a Haitian Relief Benefit Show on 1/22.

This show will feature a variety for performers including Mario Pascal, Lamar Harris, Weedie Braimah and others.

The $10 suggested donation at the door and 30% of the bar revenue will go directly to The CRUDEM Foundation.

You can find information about thier mission at http://www.crudem.org/

Also, we have a corporate sponsor who will be matching every dollar we raise, so your $10 donation at the door will be $20 for CRUDEM and every dollar spent at the bar will turn into 60 cents for the cause!

Friday @ the Billiken Club @ Saint Louis University and The Gargoyle @ Wash U:
The latter's existing local-band showcase featuring Exercise, Dear Vincent and the Livers has turned into a benefit for Doctors Without Borders. Admission is free for students, $5 for the general public, but Kenny Hofmeister, GM of KWUR, emailed me and said "we're suggesting that people who aren't paying to get in make some kind of a donation." The Facebook event page is here.

The Billiken Club's previously reported JamFest, meanwhile, will benefit two organizations: Partners in Health and International Lifeline for Haiti. Here's that Facebook event page.
