Look for Busch Stadium Grass Seed in Hardware Stores Soon

Coming soon! Busch Stadium grass seed.
That's right. Last week Scotts Miracle-Gro became the "Official Lawn Care Company of Major League Baseball".

The deal has a special perk for St. Louis baseball fans. As part of the agreement Scotts Miracle-Gro plans to soon offer for sale seed blends of five major league ballparks -- one of them being Busch Stadium.

Yep, by April -- maybe even as soon as March -- you'll be able to head to the local hardware store and pick up the same blend of grass seed that Cardinals head groundskeeper Bill Findley uses at Busch Stadium.

Yesterday, Daily RFT had a chance to ask Scotts brand manager John Price about the grass seed and whether or not it may have other uses besides providing consumers a pretty lawn.

Daily RFT: Why did you choose the Cardinals as one of the first teams to roll-out this product?

John Price: I'm from St. Louis and I know from growing up there how much people love Cardinals baseball and how much they care about their lawns. It was a natural.

What kind of grass do they have growing at Busch Stadium?

It's a bluegrass variety that's totally appropriate for the St. Louis climate. We're also offering Busch Stadium lawn fertilizer that's composed of the same nutrients that Bill Findley uses to keep the ballpark looking so great. We worked with Findley a lot on this project. He's very knowledgeable.

So, how much will this seed set us back?

The suggested retail price is at around $21.99 per bag. That's about an $8 premium over Scotts Turf-Builder line of seed.

This reminds us of one of our favorite movies, Caddyshack, in which groundskeeper Carl Spackler designs his own grass seed that you can "play 36 holes on in the afternoon and then take it home and get stoned to the bejesus." The Busch Stadium seed doesn't have any psychoactive properties, does it?

No. It's absolutely legal.
