The worlds of native son Joe Buck and Howard Stern sidekick Artie Lange will be forever-linked, thanks to the latter's rant that almost singlehandedly destroyed the former's talk show before the first episode even ended.

So while it was easy to make light of the fact that Buck probably wasn't too broken up when Lange was rushed to the hospital on January 2, the latest development in the story doesn't have much of a punchline at all.

Lange's condition was initially kept under wraps but it turns out he was hospitalized after stabbing himself nine times -- with six "hesitation wounds" and three "deep plunges" -- in an unsuccessful suicide attempt.

That's a sad, sad situation that makes everyone's heart sink.

Says Stern of his longtime on-air partner's struggles...

...as quoted in the NY Post:
"We all have our demons," Stern said on-air this week, referring to Lange's past battles with addiction. "Artie has given this show tremendous moments of great comedy. He's a tremendous contributor. He is a good man. Don't forget how great he is."
Here's wishing Lange a speedy recovery, from wounds both physical and mental.
