Southern Illinois Sheriff Jailed for Drug Dealing, Now Accused of Murder For Hire Plot

Last May the county's sheriff, Raymond Martin, was indicted and arrested on drug and gun charges -- accused of trafficking marijuana in the southeastern Illinois hamlet of Shawneetown.
According to reports back then, Martin, 47, told a confidential source that he could prosecute folks on any charge he wished to "make up" and there was no way of "getting out" of the relationship. Authorities say Martin wore his uniform while dealing drugs and carried the merchandise in his police SUV.
Now comes news that Martin allegedly hatched a murder-for-hire plot from his jail cell. On Saturday police arrested Martin's wife, Kristina Martin, and son, Cody Martin, on warrants alleging that they conspired with Martin to orchestrate a hit.

At this point, officials aren't saying who the Martins were targeting and if the murder plot had anything to do with dad's drug charges.
All three Martins are now in being held at the Jackson County Jail with bond set at $1 million each. A court hearing is scheduled for tomorrow. More info then...
