Adriel Johnson, a 52-year-old biology professor who was shot dead on Friday during a faculty meeting at the University of Alabama-Huntsville, graduated from Washington University in 1979, according to StudLife.

Johnson's classmates have created an online memorial for him via the WUSTL Black Alumni Association website.

Wrote one classmate: "Sometimes in life, you meet a person whose normal everyday common place interactions, has [sic] a profound impact on you in later years. Adriel was such a person for me. His keen sense of social responsibility has been the trait that I most remember."

Johnson, a father of two, was a mentor to minority science students at UAH, and extremely active with Boy Scouts of America, according to a report in the The Huntsville Times. Unlike the woman is charged with his killing, Johnson was known for his easygoing nature.

As a colleague of Johnson's told the Huntsville newspaper, "Adriel was very even-keeled. I don't guess I ever saw him angry. He was always upbeat, always going out of his way to shake your hand, greet you, share stories about his family."
