Updated: Bears Sign Martz

Former St. Louis Rams head coach Mike Martz interviewed with the Chicago Bears this weekend for the role of offensive coordinator.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Bears head coach Lovie Smith is pushing hard for the team to hire Martz. Before taking over as Bears head coach, Smith served as as the Rams defensive coordinator under Martz.

During the duo's three years together (2001-2003) the Rams compiled a 33-12 record and went to the playoffs twice.

Smith is on the hot seat in Chicago after the Bears went 7-9 in 2010 with new quarterback Jay Cutler.

The Sun-Times reports that Cutler met with Martz in Nashville this weekend to discuss how he plans to shape the quarterback if he becomes the teams offensive coordinator. The paper also reports that Bears general manager Jerry Angelo seems lukewarm about bringing Martz -- who last coached in the 2008 season -- on board.
