Bill Requires Doctors to Alert Prosecutors When Teens Seek Abortion

• Why do convicted murders have to go to prison for murder but murderers of unborn children don't? Is it not murder anyway you look at it? So why should it be legal to kill one group and not for another? Are we that selfish in America now that it's all about us and if you can't speak to defend yourself then so be it. Most people don't want to admit it's murder because the word is strong. It's taking a life. No matter if you are pro life or pro abortion it's still taking the life of someone.

• I think DNA samples is a great idea. It will give law enforcement the proof they need to convict a rapist in many cases where it might just be a he said, she said, situation. As far as making it a felony to coerce a girl into having an abortion, I support that too. How many young girls are forced by their parents to have a procedure that they don't want every year? This woman isn't making abortion illegal, she is just adding a few building blocks to it. If a woman wants an abortion, she is going to get it no matter what she hears or is told, so why are all of you ignorant and uneducated people cussing and threatening these proposals and Mrs. Davis herself?

• I myself am both pregnant and had an abortion in my teens. While I agree it should be a crime to coerce a young women into abortions, the majority of times that is not the case. As someone about to give birth I am so glad I live in a society where I can make choices about my body. I wonder does Cynthia Davis also support welfare? Because I had an abortion I was able to finish college, get a well paying job and decide with my husband when we wanted children. Without it, I would be another single mom looking to the government for assistance. I look at the life my child will be born into and realize this is how a child should come into this world, wanted and planned.

• I agree with Janice LaVitte that prevention would be a much more appropriate 'choice' for adult women to make. Their child has no choice. Women should know and understand what their baby will go through during an abortion. If it makes them think a little more about it, them I'm all for it.

• I'm reading the rest of these comments and really getting disturbed by them. Most of you are spouting your party lines without even giving the bill any consideration. 1.) DNA samples kept: I have talked to and personally known most of more than two dozen young women that have had abortions due to statutory and/or conventional rape. The majority of these young women did not report or even discuss the crime with anyone for more than a year after the event, and most waited for more than two years. Nearly all felt dirty, guilty and responsible for the first year or two, including (of course) the period in which they had the abortion. Once they started seeking emotional and psychological help for their victimization, most wanted the perpetrator identified and prosecuted. The lapse of time and lack of proof made that impossible. This bill takes two steps that would change that. One girl in particular was locked in a pair of joined trailer homes from the age of 15-17 (nearly two years) and repeatedly raped, sold for rape, beaten and abused in other ways. The only time she was let out she was terrified to speak to anyone, and it was to be taken to a hospital for an abortion. This bill would have put in place measures that would have rescued her. 2.) Requiring the woman to be informed. Oh geeze this is such a horrible government restriction on our freedoms. I mean, WE HAVE A RIGHT TO BE IGNORANT. After all, if we only find out AFTER we torture and kill our unborn child that it suffered, at least we don't have a baby, just inconsolable guilt. Ignorance is bliss, and the govmt. has no right to take away that bliss by telling us the truth! Seriously, which of your feminine rights are being stepped on here? I really am curious. Every time women post without even the smallest measure of thought behind their words, I can't help but have this vision of some hair-flying, bra-less lunatic with spittle flying from flaccid lips while ranting about how unfair the world is to them. Free clue: people will still cross the street to avoid you, no matter how much the government tries to kiss your overfed butt.

• I wonder how many people that have already commented here with their profanity and blasphemy has actually taken part in an abortion. Although there is still hope, the context in which you state your position lacks all common sense and any true sense of intelligence. If people are going to add value to a society and debate or take a position, it would be to your advantage to know or understand both positions or at least the majority in opposition. This technical age of social multimedia providing a valuable platform for debate has given way to a majority of lunatics(a person whose actions and manner are marked by extreme eccentricity or recklessness). It is my belief that come Judgement Day, we will not only be judged for what we have done but also for how many lives were effected by such actions. With a group of individuals such as yourselves there is no logical, theological, or rational debating to be had so I leave your cesspool with one last thought. So if I was to go along with your view of supporting abortion, then let the mother be willing to sacrifice her own life as well. Since we as a society as stooped so low, then let your comments and arguments be not only for another life that cannot fight for theirs or make their own decision, but rather let your remarks be suitable for your life as well. 1C 1:18-21,25

• What is wrong with the world? If you don't want to get pregnant, take care of it before your so called problem begins. Who has a choice to say when a baby (fetus) should live and when it shouldn't. There is BIG WORLD out there with people who would have been on the ABORTION HIT LIST had it been legal when they were born; are you one of them? As the mother of a wonderful adopted child, a wonderful son-in-law and three beautiful grandchildren I can't imagine that her birth mother would have chosen destruction vs. life, where would my family be today? GIVE ME A BREAK-it is your choice - PREVENTION.

I just called her office to let them know that even though I don't live in St. Charles, I will drive out there, write letters, make phone calls � anything to ensure this crazy person is kicked out of office as soon as possible. A lot of courageous men and women fought for my right to choose what I do to my own body to be honored. For you to sponsor a bill that effectively says I'm damaged or "unnatural" for choosing the best option for myself and my family is not only wrong, but it's also a slap in the face to elected officials who voted to honor that right over thirty years ago. You must be filled with a detrimental amount of hubris to think that you know better than those that have come before. Actions have consequences, Rep.Davis, and I sincerely hope the poor choice you have made by sponsoring this bill is balanced by a difficult, life-changing decision for your family-- a consequence that show just how demeaning and difficult you have now made life for women all over this state.
