• Most cities that have had this type of arrangement have given back their local control. The reason local control was taken away expired about 149 years ago. It's time to give it back. I am for local control. It's Democracy folks, if your politicians do something you don�t like, replace them with someone who will. If they raid the pension, then fire them and hire someone who will restore it. And even if they did want to raid it, what would they do with it? Trip to Vegas? Put it all on red, and build a monument to Slay? We need an alert and knowledgeable citizenry!! Which requires input, processing and then output. Not just the input and output.

• b & Chad, where have you been? the schools in the City of St. Louis have never been under City control. The schools belong to a subdistrict set up by the STATE and controlled by the STATE. So you want the same STATE that controls the schools to control the PD? Where did you go to scholl?

• @Chad Because St. Louis has yet to shed some Civil War legacies that most other affected cities dispensed with decades ago.

• D'oh! Still don't understand why St. Louis is one of the few cities in the nation with this kind of arrangement.

• Well, the state took over the St. Louis Public Schools in 2007, so I guess you are making the opposite argument of what you intend.
