Craig Benoist learned these lessons the hard way. On Wednesday police in O'Fallon, Missouri, charged the 46-year-old softball coach with second-degree statutory sodomy and attempted statutory sodomy involving one of the girls who played on his 14-and-under softball team, Xtreme Heat.
Apparently Benoist got 'xtremely hot and bothered by one player who has since turned 15. According to reports, their seven-month affair concluded awkwardly (as such relationships are prone to end) when Benoist's wife found suspicious text messages on his cell phone and followed her husband on an errand to drop off their teenage son at wrestling practice.
After dropping off the boy, Benoist drove to a pizza joint parking lot where the girl allegedly met him in his vehicle. When the pair disappeared beneath the backseat windows, the wife reportedly opened the door to confront her husband. Not surprisingly, she filed for divorce days later.
That was back in February. The girl's parents have since uncovered a letter from Benoist in which he allegedly declared his love for the nymphet.
Benoist, of Hazelwood, is in St. Charles County Jail on a $35,000 bond.
His 15-year-old love interest, meanwhile, is reportedly ready to play ball again this summer. Presumably she knows her way around the bases. Thanks, coach.
