Mayor Slay Defends Stripper Mobile; Vehicle Turns Heads in St. Louis, Baltimore

• when will people value women as human beings? How would you like to work this stripper gig? Over 90% of women who work in pornography experiened abuse. The message that this sends children and aduls is that women are valued most highly in our society for their utility as objects of sexual desire, that women exist to be consumed by the male gaze. How does the mobile strip truck empower the stste of women who make 66 cents on every dollar a man makes, two thirds of whom will experience some orm of sexual violence in their lifetimes? And how does this help young men to see women as empowered human beings and not just objects for their sexual gratification? Most important, how does it help women to achieve lastiing empowerment and financial independence- to use their minds and bodies in ways that help them get a job education, to be informed citizens and start dealing with our crumbling eonomy?

• Thanks for finally running a picture of the "stripper mobile." To my vast lack of surprise, it's much tamer than most people would assume from the number of people talking about it. So if you're going to run off the road, or crash into another vehicle, because somewhere up ahead you see a couple of pictures of women in swimwear, and a woman in a bikini dancing around in the back of a truck, please do the rest of us a favor and turn in your driver's license and start taking the bus.
