Video: Stereotype of BigBalls Kickball League as Horny, Drunk Idiots is Affirmed

• To Kickball Is For Lovers: "What? Would you rather he had attended a game and scouted the public urinators himself?" It's not like he's a stranger to reporting on some guy's unit. In his big journalistic coup, he measured up Ron Jeremy to a full 9 3/4. The big scoop is how Chad got to the full measure. My money is on the backdoor theory.

• Listen, you schmegma-ridden group of engorged ball sacks, from the looks of it, drinking beer and playing kickball is your pathetic idea of foreplay-and that's to say nothing of the greasy and gelatinous sex to follow. Did Chad ridicule you? Hardly! You people are adults. You play kickball. You deserve to be mocked-mercilessly. By that standard, Chad used kid gloves. What you all don't seem to understand is that you guys are a joke. This story is a joke, and it's made all the more laughable by your incoherent squeals that Chad is somehow not a "quality" journalist for calling you out on your boorish behavior. What? Would you rather he had attended a game and scouted the public urinators himself? Please. At the end of the day, this story doesn't matter. You're nothing more than a bunch of imbecile-kickballers who got the boot from Tower Grove, which, as it happens, is exactly what Chad reported. But don't despair! The news is not all bad: I hear there's an all-you-can-eat nude four-square league forming at Carondelet. I'm sure you guys would fit right in.

• I play in the league and all I can think about is having sex, getting drunk, and injuring an innocent female with one of my power kicks. YEEEEEEEEAAHHHHH!!! After every game each week, I urinate on a new lawn and then pop some roids and mountain dew to sober up for the ride back home in the county. I swear there are no quality journalists in this town anymore.

• Holy crap! I wish people would get this excited about local elections.

• I am saddened and disappointed by my neighborhood this week. I have lived in Tower Grove since moving to St. Louis and have loved every minute of it, until now. Were some of my fellow kickballers breaking rules, laws, or acting inappropriately? Perhaps, but if local residents witnessed it or park rangers saw it, those individuals should have been punished appropriately, and through the proper legal channels. Instead, the park staged an overblown and rather melodramatic response by kicking out an entire league of people looking to get out and enjoy their weekends doing something fun and active with friends. It was poor form on their part, and could have been handled in a much more civil and courteous manner. People are urinating in public? Put out more public restrooms as has been previously requested by both the league and other patrons of the park. People leaving trash everywhere? More trash cans (also previously requested). Too many 'bad actors' for the park staff to handle? Ask the league to provide some of the surveillance and 'security' on game days (something they already offered to do but were not given a chance due to our expulsion from the park) Park rules and regulations still not being followed? How about staging a meeting with the league directors to amicably reach an agreement? How about staging a community meeting to allow ALL residents and league members to voice their opinions and offer suggestions to a solution? The list goes on. I am truly saddened by the cursory evaluation of local resident complaints and allegations that led to the league's expulsion from the park. I used to tell people that one of my favorite things about living in the city was that it offered so much to city residents and encouraged active participation in city life. Not anymore.

• Chad, your take on the story again demonstrates why you are unable to get a serious job in journalism. You taken a legitimate new item and distorted it to "have fun at your expense". I know that journalistic balance might impede your fun, but don't you think you have some responsibility to fairly depict the story? The Park's response was out of line. Suddenly tossing 2500 people out for the behavior of a few is extreme. What about a graduated response? Conferences with the league? Warnings? Incremental enforcement? How about interviewing the local business community? I guess I should have expected this from someone whose biggest journalistic coup was to personally verify that Ron Jeremy is a full 9 3/4 inches. Big Balls leaves Tower Grove with its dignity intact. The same can't be said for you.... loser.

• This has to be the best comment thread of all time. Yes RFT, where is your "journalistic integrity!" Your "biased and ill-researched article" is appalling! You clearly need to spend more time on the "thrill ride" that is Big Balls Kickball League to ensure you can more astutely report on their activities! I guess some people just can't tell the difference between the comics section and the news. That said, no reason to remove these folks from the park w/o a probationary period of some kind. Fair is fair.

• Regardless of alleged widespread "lewd" behavior, as far as I know, the only documented cases of illegal activity I have heard of are one count of public urination (two were reported, but one was not a member of the league), and a pic of some guys butt on the web. For this, 2500 people who PAID to be in this league are now forced to find another place to play? I agree with the person who suggested protesting. 12 vs 2,500 may make John Karel change his mind.

• You kickballers are doing a shit job of getting non-kickballers to sympathize with your plight. If the businesses in Tower Grove NEEDED your organization to stay in business, then they'll either be chomping at the bit to pull up stakes and move to wherever you land, or their business doesn't deserve to survive. If your 2500 x $40-50 is such a big deal, buy your own damn venue and stop thinking you're ENTITLED to Tower Grove. Personally, I think BigBalls have grown too big [npi] for Tower Grove, much less any public park, to be able to handle a weekly extra 2500 people using fields, leaving the occasional bit of trash behind, wear and tear on the turf and admittedly pissing in bushes. And for those whining about Chad taking the video out of context: it's part of the face you're presenting to the public, be proud of it.

• Although it's not Chad's fault that Tower Grove has decided to disassociate itself with STL Big Balls, the sensationalist style of his piece as well as the lack of journalistic integrity that the RFT has displayed in publishing such a biased and ill-researched article has led me to pull the thousands of dollars worth of advertising that I have been purchased for years. Print media is on the decline anyway, and with "journalists" of this nature, it's not hard to understand why.

• Chad's reply to my earlier post is that he was "just having...fun at our expense" (ya'll). He also implies that I committed a faux pas in giving my post a childish name when he "thought we were having a grown-up discussion." Well Chad, you posted the following comment on your earlier article this morning(and this is verbatim): "Just addressing the people angry with my description of kickballers as "drunken grade-schoolers", I just want to say to you all: "Nanny nanny, boo boo." Or even better, "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." Clearly that was in the spirit of an adult discussion. Good job calling me out for doing the same thing you did a few hours. Anyway, I don't much care whether this constitutes a "grown-up discussion" or not. I stand by the the substance of my post which is that you're a bad journalist who makes terrible arguments.

• I do not care to read your story about Ron Jeremy...certainly you have done us no such courtesy before posting all this crap. The point of the post was that the video, just like your picture, is taken COMPLETELY OUT OF CONTEXT. Funny how kiss-ass you've become. "I was just having a bit of fun -guffaw guffaw-" You're definitely not helping our case, and your little "making fun" is more like a mudslinging campaign against something that 2500 people immensely enjoy. This is so built up it's ridiculous. No, businesses will probably not close (though our business definitely didn't hurt). It's just really sucks the life out of such a fun sport when a few people ruin it for everyone, especially when rangers/TGP apparently did NOTHING about it at the time. I'm still a little in disbelief considering my team has played five season and never once have I seen nudity, or left trash, or seen an overly flagrant public pisser (yeah, I've seen some guys hide themselves in a clump of trees but not often and only when there are no urinals in sight). All I see is people playing kickball, yelling and having fun with EACH OTHER, not bothering park residents or patrons, and always following park rules. We've often had spectators we don't even know that are intrigued by the league! Ask the old man with the great dane who walks the parks. He's a patron, he's happy. Take a lesson from him and get to know us. We'll probably offer you a beer, a pat on the back, and a spot on the team.

• Nothing in that video displays any evidence of people being personally attacked or hurt. I've been part of this league (as well as others) for four years now, and have witnessed very few incidents that would even borderline as destructive. This was never meant to be a league for children or people with delicate heart conditions. The description of this league reads like a rollercoaster: you have to be -this- tall to ride (sexual? maybe), not for pregnant women (that's a shout out to my team's captain), not for the elderly with medical complications (that's for CTS and PGH). Bigballs is a thrill ride, and those small privately owned bars are certainly going to miss us 2500 degenerates.

• Hey, kickball people: You know what's better than hurling internet invective? A protest. You should put on your best mesh trucker hats and your shortest shorts and go march in the park to draw attention to your unfair treatment. You can sing songs, and write slogans on your headbands, and make posters comparing Chad to Hitler, and burn Reginald van Towergrove in effigy. You clearly have the support of the neighborhood (minus a small percentage of you who everybody agrees has behaved badly, but none of you know who it was) thanks to your huge spending power and your crimefighting abilities. I bet the neighboring homeowners come out and grovel for forgiveness. "OH Sticky Tits, don't leave." They'll say. "Nine Inch N8 we need you to keep our Sundays fun and funky."

• I've seen these ass bags in the park for the last few years and I can vouch for the fact that this is very indicative of what goes on with the Big Balls league. It's not like Chad made this video... Don't shoot the messenger. The dude was just posting a dumb video of a bunch of amatuer drinkers.

• It�s true that some of our players are assholes but that is the exception, not the rule, and since anyone is allowed to sign up, how are we to know who the bad ones are going to be? Consider, for a moment, if every league or team was disciplined for the wrongs of a few of its members. Would all of the Los Angeles Rams be in prison next to Darryl Henley? Would the Atlanta Hawks be rotting away with their rapist teammate Tom Payne or would they just not be allowed to play in the Philips Arena? Maybe the entire National Hockey League should be disbanded completely for Mike Danton�s conspiracy to commit murder. Don�t get me wrong, I don�t want people peeing in my yard or coming into my neighborhood being jerks but if that were happening; I�d deal with them as individuals, I wouldn�t rage against everyone that walked by. The vast majority of the 2,500 Big Ballers are good people that truly appreciate the opportunity to play in such a beautiful park. We understand our responsibilities to be respectful of our neighbors and act accordingly. We support the local businesses of Grand, Arsenal, and Morgan Ford and clean up after ourselves each week. We should not be penalized as a group for the few assholes that cannot control themselves.

• The only thing that has been "affirmed" is that Chad Garrison is a dipshit who lacks basic reasoning skills. Chad is responding to people that take offense to his portraying ALL players in the BigBalls league as troublemakers on the basis of a few incidents. And his response is: "Here's ONE team acting like silly drunk people." And Chad concludes on the basis of that evidence that every team in the league must be composed entirely of "horny, drunk idiots." Great argument, Chad. That's airtight. A Swiss fucking watch.

• Yeah, I'm a little curious about Mr. Garrison's vendetta, too. Journalism isn't my forte, I'm actually a Chemical Engineer, so not really my expertise, obviously, but I would say I am reasonably intelligent. I always thought one of the top ten rules of professional journalism was to be objective, right?

• Oddly enough, this was the team (Here For the Gang Bang) acting goofy during finals last year. That team won the entire division and played the team that my girlfriend plays for (Team Morning Sex). They are a competitive team. They enjoy some beers like most recreational weekend sports players do. They joked with their team and ours and never EVER have done anything or said anything rude to anybody within the park. I like how their personal video of them goofing around is now being used against them. Last time I checked, there were a lot of other issues within the city of StL to worry about. The names are rather tongue in cheek, but I guess that is just beyond some people's comprehension.

• the video was meant to be funny and i feel it was. if you can't find any humor in that then i feel sorry for you. pretty sure in between all the plugged shenanigans that were probably filmed only for the video it's just teams out there playing kickball and having fun. our team never trashed any fields or made any rude comments to the neighbors of the park. we were only out there to enjoy our sundays with our friends

• Please! You'll see worse behavior in Soulard on an average weekend. My family attended my games and there were no causes for concern for their safety or their well-being. The names of the teams were hilarious, some teams had costumes (batman, giant foam cowboy hats, jorts) Sounds like Chad needs to join a team and try it out for himself.

• I have nothing to do with Kickball in any way shape or fashion... But I didn't see anything in the video that bothers me as long as they aren't on my front lawn. Looks like a good time to me. Horny and Drunk? Looks so. Idiots? By who's judgement? What type of liberal rag is this? What's with the 'wag finger' attitude over a bunch of peeps trying to have a good time?

• Does Chad have a personal problem with us? You're burning 2500 bridges Chad, people from all walks of life, for something that you obviously know little to nothing about. It's like saying we should ban the Cardinals because some fans get in fights after the games, or get too drunk at the games, or yell obscenities.

• Just to be clear, this is ONE of the 200 plus teams correct? I take issue with a "news" organization portraying an entire league based upon a 3 minute video made by a group consisting of less than 1% of the entire league. I would hardly call this a stereotype affirmed. There are many people involved with BigBalls who do not condone or partake in this type of behavior. RFT's sensationalism and yellow journalism is unfair to the many respectful, law abiding citizens who participate in BigBalls. By finding the most outrageous representations of members of this league you can find and portraying this as the norm, you are in as much slandering those of us who just like to enjoy an afternoon of kickball with friends.
