Yesterday Boeing's Integrated Defense Systems (located right here in St. Louis) unveiled its new unmanned jet, the Phantom Ray.

The aircraft is scheduled to make its first flight in December and could one day be used for surveillance and reconnaissance, intelligence gathering, suppression of enemy air defenses, electronic attack.

Unlike the MQ-1 Predator, the drone used in Afghanistan and Iraq and built by General Atomics and Aeronautical Systems, the Phantom Ray is a full-sized aircraft, measuring 50-feet-wide and capable of reaching speeds of over 600 m.p.h. and heights of more than 40,000 feet.
