Breaking News: St. Louis Police Officer Shot Multiple Times at North City Gas Station

Updated 2:45 p.m.: St. Louis police report that the officer was shot 6 to 8 times. He remains in critical condition though the wounds are not considered life-threatening.

The officer is 26, a former U.S. Marine and a nearly two-year veteran of the department. He was conducting a traffic stop near the corner of N. Grand and Natural Bridge (photo above) when a man in the back seat of the stopped vehicle fired the shots. The officer returned fire but its unclear if the gunman was hit. Three men including the gunmen then fled the vehicle. The other two suspects were captured a short time later. The gunman remains at large. The driver of the vehicle did not run.

A St. Louis police officer was shot multiple times shortly before 8:30 a.m. today at a gas station at the corner of N. Grand and Natural Bridge just across the street from Fairgrounds Park.

The officer is being treated at Saint Louis University Hospital. An investigation is ongoing. More information as updates become available.
