Feud Between East Side Pit Bull Breeders Leads to Shooting

Think his bite hurts? Try messin' with his breeder.
There used to be a time -- not long ago -- when two pit bull breeders living in a seedy Metro East community got into an argument they'd settle the issue mano a mano (or rather "muzzle a muzzle") in the dog-fighting ring. The man with the most blood-thirsty beast wins the debate. Fair and square.

These days, though, pit bull breeders aren't in it for the dog fighting. Heavens no! They raise the pups because they make such cuddly, adorable pets. (Just don't feed 'em your babies!)

Yes, such is the love that today's pit bull breeder has for his brood that he's willing to wage war himself. And that's just what Centreville police say 28-year-old Darryl Isaac did Saturday when he marched into the Ernest Smith Apartments and shot a 21-year-old rival pit-bull breeder.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder and was treated and released. Centreville police say that Isaac believed the fellow pit bull breeder had stolen a prized pup from him months ago.

P.S. This is the second shooting at the Ernest Smith Apartments to make headlines in the past year. Last June Centreville police officer Greg Jonas was patrolling the public housing project when he was shot to death in an unprovoked attack.
