St. Charles Teens Won't Be Starring in Remake of Escape from Alcatraz

They had the gumption, but they lacked the brains. But hey, they're teenagers! What do you expect?

Three teens who escaped from the St. Charles County Juvenile Justice Center last night are back in custody after less than two hours on the lam.

The juveniles successfully scaled the jail's 25-foot fence topped with barbed wire around 10:30 p.m., but apparently hadn't figured on the cuts and scrapes that would come with their daring escape.

A few minutes later the teens were spotted a short distance from the juvenile center -- attempting to hail a ride to the hospital. Authorities caught up with the teens around 12:30 a.m. today near the Ameristar Casino -- a half-mile from the juvenile center.

One of the kids was caught stranded on an island lying between a small tributary and the Missouri River.
