University City Parking Meters Get Whacked

That's no optical illusion. The parking meters along Delmar in the University City Loop are really that short.

Evelyn Shields-Benford, director of public works for the city, tells Daily RFT that the meters were lopped off recently to meet ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliance after her office received several complaints from people saying that the meters were too tall.

City work crews cut the poles down so that the meters stand no more than 42 inches tall.

Yes, they look sort of strange compared to their taller brethren located further down Delmar in the St. Louis City limits.

Shields-Benford says U. City now plans to cut all parking meters down to 42 inches. She couldn't provide an exact cost for the alterations, saying the work will come out of the city's public works' budget.
