Gosh, and it seemed like only yesterday when everybody was lining up at the Apple Store for the 3G iPhone... Now of course that is all totally passe, especially since 4G service will only be offered through Sprint Nextel and Clearwire, not AT&T, exclusive servicer of the iPhone.

4G is said to run ten times faster than 3G, or about the same speed as home Internet, a Clearwire spokesman told the Business Journal. You connect to it through a WiMAX signal. Clearwire claims 4G service will be available to 1.2 million people in the St. Louis area.

Currently the only device capable of handling 4G is the Sprint EVO, which Sprint hopes will be an effective challenger to the iPhone hegemony. Service costs $69.99 per month with an addition $10 premium data fee.
