Hindsight is 20/20. So is instant replay.
How does Don Denkinger feel about Jim Joyce's blown call at first base last night?

Is he depressed because, until Joyce cost Detroit's Armando Galarraga a perfect game, most everyone outside of Missouri had forgotten about Denkinger's own unforgivable first base blunder that helped keep the Cardinals from winning the 1985 World Series?

Or is he elated that another umpire now has the dubious distinction of making the worst first base call of all-time?

Thrust back into the spotlight after 25 years, Denkinger isn't saying either way but he has a solution to keep mistakes like his and Joyce's from ever happening again.

Yup, Denkinger has come out in support of instant replay.

He spoke to both the New York Post and ESPN Radio after the Joyce/Galarraga game.

"There's a whole lot they need to clean up before they get to bang-bangers at first base," Denkinger said on "Mike and Mike." "Go out there and try and call it when it's at full speed."

"There are so many areas you can use instant replay," he told the Post. "Maybe instant replay can clean things up. If a play is missed, it can be corrected. I didn't feel that way in '85, but I feel that way now."

Ouch. I guess if hindsight is 20/20, so is instant replay.
