For the first time ever an Asian carp -- that dive-bombing invasive fish species that's clogging the Mississippi and Illinois rivers -- has made its way past an electric barrier and into the Great Lakes waterway.

A fisherman in Lake Calumet near Chicago netted a 19-pound Asian carp Tuesday.

Now a U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow of Michigan is calling for the entire area where the fish was hooked to be poisoned to kill any other Asian carp that might be there. She's also demanding that Illinois close off the locks connecting the Chicago River with the Lake Michigan.

At issue is the $7-billion-a-year commercial fishing industry of the Great Lakes, which fears that the voracious Asian carp could wipe out native fish species.
