Matt Kindt's 3 Story on its Way to Silver Screen
3 Story: The Secret History of the Giant Man, Matt Kindt's graphic novel about a man with a strange medical condition who grows to be three stories tall, is going to be made into a movie. Dustin Lance Black, who won an Oscar for his screenplay for Milk, will write and direct.

"It's been in the works for a while," Kindt admits, "but I couldn't say anything."

The acquisition by Warners is an eyebrow-raising move because the material is on the arty side and downbeat, too. But the studio responded to Black's take, which would focus on the father-daughter relationship and soften the melancholic ending.
Kindt says he expects the movie to be different from the original book. "Movies are a different art form," he says. "It doesn't matter too much to me -- as long as it's good. I've got my hopes really high up. Maybe this could be a great thing. I love movies. It'll be awesome getting to see the process from the inside."
Since Black is still writing the screenplay, the movie won't be out for a couple of years.
Meanwhile, Kindt's latest graphic novel, Revolver, will be out next month. There will be a combined art show/release party at Star Clipper on July 30 at 7 p.m. The party will also celebrate the publication of the latest volume of The Sixth Gun by Kindt's friends and fellow St. Louisans Brian Hurtt (art) and Cullen Bunn (words).
