Calling All St. Louis Reality TV Wannabes, HGTV Wants You for My First Place

myfirstplacelogo.jpg
Now that pseudo-reality TV show The Hills is over forever, and Dancing With the Stars is done waltzing until the fall, where are we supposed to get our reality-TV fix? (Other than the dozens of other reality TV shows still airing new episodes, that is.)

It's like they say in that philosophical guidepost of a film, The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Don't dream it, be it.

You can make your own reality TV fantasies come true by applying for HGTV's My First Place, now casting in St. Louis. Unlike other series, where you have to be fat (Biggest Loser), willing to do icky stuff (Fear Factor) or culinarily talented (Next Food Network Star), all you have to have to be on My First Place is the burning desire to buy a house. Oh, and you have to pass a three-part application and screening process, no big deal.

"The show itself is a very documentary-style show," says casting director Clif Briley. "We like to say we're like a fly on the wall. There's no resident realtor, and no host."

Hear that? It's all about YOU! The first part of the application looks simple enough, though we can't speak for the interviews and screen tests that follow before HGTV actually turns the lens on you and commits to a full episode chronicling your experience.

There's yet another prize waiting at the finish line, other than the fame and fortune that automatically come with an appearance on reality shows (they do, right? Right?): HGTV provides a housewarming gift at the end of the road!

"It's not a complete home makeover," Briley says, "but it's a kind of thank you for being on the show. They turn the key, open the door and find this gift waiting for them on the other side."

To see the kind of heartwarming experience you could have by being on My First Place, head to Hulu, where you can check out such scintillating episodes as "Searching in Scottsdale" and "Pricing Woes in Phoenix."
