Have an "Emotional Attachment" to Your Basement? HGTV Wants You

If you've been dying to become a reality TV star -- and if you have a serious thing for your recently renovated basement -- you could be on HGTV's "Bang for your Buck."

You don't have to love your basement as much as serial killer Jame Gumb -- but it helps.

The cable show is filming in St. Louis beginning September 8, and looking for three local homeowners who've renovated their basement in the last three years, and are willing to appear on TV to show off their improvements.

Why basements, you ask?

Juliana Boste, a casting producer with High Noon Entertainment and the person seeking St. Louisans for the show, says that each year "Bang for Your Buck" looks for homeowners in a specific city with one newly renovated room, so viewers can compare similar remodels at similar price points. So in, say, Denver, they might be surveying kitchens, and in Topeka, they'd look for cool outdoor living spaces.

Here in St. Louis, we just happened to get stuck with basements.

But Boste swears that's not a bad thing. With the proper renovation, a basements can kick ass, too.

"I think the best ones are really cool," she says. "You see them from cobwebs and storage spaces to really special spaces. ... We've seen people add wet bars, or cool entertainment centers, or an extra bedroom."

The show is looking for all price points, so don't assume that if your new basement isn't outre, they won't be interested. The main casting criteria, apparently, is someone who really cares about the lowest floor of their home, Boste says. "We want a personality, but we don't need a crazy reality TV character. We do want people who love their basement -- who spend a lot of time in it, or have an emotional attachment to it."

For the record, serial killers with old cisterns in their basements -- as "attached" to their space as they may be -- need not apply. Casting agents are looking for the "after" part of the renovation equation.

So if you've done the work and want to show off, contact Boste at jbroste@highnoontv.com or (303) 712-3129 to begin the application process.
