He's been huffing and puffing about it since April. But will the lawsuit Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder filed yesterday be enough to blow health care reform down?

Probably not. But, hey, it makes for good political theater. In his federal lawsuit filed yesterday in Cape Girardeau, Kinder argues that the federal health care reform passed this past spring is unconstitutional and denies Missourians the right to choose the type of medical insurance they want.

Kinder is joined in the suit by three other Missourians, all private citizens whose stories the lieutenant governor thinks best illustrate his argument.

The suit drew sharp criticism from the Missouri Democratic Party spokesman Ryan Hobart, who issued a response yesterday stating:

"After stone-walling the people of Missouri for months when asked who is funding his frivolous lawsuit, Peter Kinder has decided it is time try to block health care coverage for hundreds of thousands of Missourians. The real question that remains is: Who is helping him fund his frivolous lawsuit? For months he has refused to disclose his donors. Missourians deserve to know if Peter Kinder is allowing his office to be subsidized by the insurance industry and its lobbyists or candidates who want this law repealed. Instead, up to this point, all of that information has been hidden from the public, even though Lieutenant Governor Kinder is using state resources to publicize his actions."
