Stock up now and avoid pools and daycares.
St. Louis County health officials have recorded 56 cases of the violent diarrhea disorder cryptosporidiosis, compared to just 10 cases by this same time last year.

Also known as "crypto", the illness is caused by a parasitic bug that leads to acute, short-term diarrhea. Last week alone the county recorded 18 cases of crypto, ten of them in children under the age of four. The parasite seems to really spread in daycare facilities and swimming pools.

Richard Knaup, Communicable Disease Services Manager for St. Louis County Health Department tells KMOX that parents should keep their children from pools and splash parks for the next two weeks and to make sure they're cleaning up themselves and their kids after changing diapers.
