We already know that everyone loves St. Louis local-boy-made-hella-famous-author Jonathan Franzen
, but we didn't know that "everybody" extended even to el presidente
, Barack Obama.
Obama is currently on a ten-day vacation in Martha's Vineyard with the First Family, where he has only shown his face to media a scant few times. The first time he emerged, however, was last Friday, when he popped into a local independent bookstore, Bunch of Grapes.
There, CBS reports
, Obama picked up a copy of Franzen's upcoming novel, Freedom
, which isn't due to hit shelves until August 31. A bookstore employee told CBS that the president was given an advance reading copy of the novel, which is a final proof send out to reviewers before the book's release.
Now let's all wait and see how Franzen feels about Obama's "tastemaking in the U.S.," shall we? Move over, Oprah.
